Anyone tried the new (Dec 1st) ‘Steam Link for Meta’ app with MSFS? Seems to be getting good reviews more generally.
I tried Alt-Tab’ing MSFS from it but MSFS didn’t recognize any headset.
I had the same experience. No issues connecting or playing other games, but MSFS 2020 doesn’t recognize the Quest 3.
Maybe you need to set SteamVR as your OpenXR default? SteamVR settings/OpenXR
Doesn’t seem to have that in Settings anywhere I’m looking in either SteamVR virtual pages or settings from the desktop App. It’s a new beta and I’m not a usual user of SteamVR so I’m not sure either way whether its forced OpenXR as part of the open beta or its buried somewhere not obvious to me so far.
Ya, it’s not an option with the steam link settings for some reason???
Just open SteamVR without a headset connected and them go to your SteamVR settings/openxr and choose SteamVR as your OpenXR default. This then worked fine for me, including other apps like Hubris that requires OpenXR. If you go back to Link or Air Link you’ll need to select the Oculus OpenXR default again. Maybe Steam will make this all happen automatically in the future, like VD currently does.
Pretty early days with this app but I’m already seeing some nice results with it. Very comparable to what I can get with Air Link or VD. I still need to finetune this a bit more but when I do I’ll post my settings.
I’ve selected SteamVR as my current OpenXR runtime but when I CTRL-TAB all I get is a split screen view and I’m not in VR.
Any idea how I can enter VR mode? I have launched from the Widows desktop inside SteamVR.
Ok got it now, I had to switch back to VR mode by clicking the menu button on the left quest controller.
Initial impression is that it is more responsive than VD, but audio seems to be a bit glitchy at times.
I have a Quest 3 under the xmas tree, I gotta wait to try the Steam Link😂
Got it up and running tonight. Tiny bit of a drop in FPS, but much better than I expected. Meta Air link is laggy as all get out for me but this was surprisingly more spry. I will probably still use the cable for the time being as I have that set so well that my flights are buttery smooth.
I am running with a RTX 3060, Quest 2 and a wifi 5 Eero wifi system.
OK, best Steam Link settings with my QPro;
Everything default/auto except; encoding manual = 1024, enable osc on, eye tracking on, face tracking on.
SteamVR set as default OpenXR, and % visuals manually set to 400% in order to get the best out of dlss/balanced. Works almost as well as Air Link, lol! Pretty good effort Valve, thanks.
Also, if you need to run Oculus store apps you can use Revive (google to find it). I’m pretty sure this is how VD runs those.
Hi All - Quest 3 and Steam Link Owner - STUMPED.
New Quest 3, downloaded Steam Link, run it and it connects right into the big dark Steam environment - and that’s it. No menus on Left Controller, nothing. Only option is right menu button on Quest to resume or quit. So I run game from PC, it starts Steam VR that dumps me into Steam Home with MSFS starting. No menus, no response from left controller. Cannot change anything link related - its running but that’s it. What am I doing wrong or missing???
Steam is running on PC , Network is set to Private, Allow Remote Play is enabled, system works fine on Virtual Desktop VR. Have not been able to find a guide or any detailed info so asking here. Thanks!!
Trying to understand the process where you can first use the left button to bring up the VR menu. My left button does nothing.
Have you tried other games using SteamVR (say with Link or Air Link or VD after selecting SteamVR tab)?
When I’m in the SteamVR void I press the left menu button to bring up the panels (off/on again to recenter it). If your left controller isn’t doing this there’s something wrong. Maybe go to your Steam library, right click on SteamVR/properties/files/ and verify SteamVR. Also, if you are in beta SteamVR you also need to select the Steam beta in it’s settings. Actually, I recommend you stay out of beta on both of these for now because they seem a little unstable, for me at least.
Thanks - I am out of the beta but still no menu from left controller. I seem to be meeting every single requirement and setting but no luck. Verified files - no luck. Appreciate it.
ok, the only other thing I can think of; goto steamVR settings/openXR tab (you need to use your desktop steamVR panel to find this, as has already been mentioned a couple of times in this thread). Two thinks to do there is to select SteamVR as your openXR runtime and at the bottom you’ll see an experimental meta option which you should turn off (it may be causing some controller problems).
Since you are out of beta in SteamVR and Steam, you may want to try going into beta on both asn see if this helps. Sorry all I can think of and I don’t think I can add anything further so I’ll sign off now. Good luck, bye, and cheers.
Thanks! Helps to have someone suggest things just to know you aren’t crazy yet! It always gets figured out with enough tinkering.
