Steam version CTD after blackshark.ai logo and legal notices

Hello, I’ve searched before posting. Found similar issues but all the threads were locked without a fix.
The issue is my Steam version of MSFS will 100% always CTD after blackshark.ai logo and legal notices. Right after the rotating loading circle appears.

So far I’ve tried:
Complete reinstall of MSFS and deleted all related leftover folders
Deleted rolling cache file and MSFS folders in AppData
Unplugged all peripherals including mouse and keyboard
SFC, Windows update, NVIDIA driver update

It worked for nearly a month without issue. Then this issue appeared all of a sudden, without any change done to my PC. No new software, no change to the hardware, no update to the game or whatsoever. Just stopped working overnight.
Event viewer indicates error code 0xc0000005 every single time.

Please help.

I’ve seen a few other people say the new update is very intolerant of any overclocks, do you have anything overclocked?

No I don’t. Also when this happened I did not update the game or in fact make any change to software and hardware. It just sort of happened out of the blue. I’m totally baffled.

That’s very odd, you could maybe try a system restore back to a few days ago before the CTDs started happening? It’s quick and easy to do.

Unfortunately I did not have any restore points prior to that point. It’s been nearly a month since this happened. Sorry for the late post.

Also, any kind of reinstall/restore of the system is impractical for me since I also happen to work on this PC. I’d rather sacrifice this game than reinstalling or restoring Windows and deal with the trouble with my work projects.

But thanks for the assistance for sure!

I’m guessing since you’ve reinstalled the game you’re now running the most up to date version? if not, it may be worth trying it if possible.

If it were me I’d also run a registry scan, in case of any weird entries, CCleaner is good for that.

It’s the newest update with VR support.

I just did a register and malware scan, still no luck.

I also searched Steam community. It appears that this might be a Steam issue since a lot of people are reporting having this issue with Steam installation but not having it if they install via Microsoft Store. Unfortunately I do not own a copy on Microsoft Store so I can’t test it on my end.

I’ve got the Steam version too, but I guess I’ve been lucky as I’ve not had any major issues since the launch version.

I suppose all that’s left to do is keep checking the forums and maybe try contacting Zendesk, though from what I’ve heard that’s like shouting into a black hole.

Thanks for all the suggestions and advice. Really appreciate it.

Today I tried MS store and it worked. So it was definitely Steam then. But the MS store version was stuck at downloading the first aircraft, around 26MB into the 100G download.
