Currently, photogrammetry tree blobs persist in cities AND rural areas. While these issues can still be addressed before final release, they remain present in the current build.
Additionally, I’ve noticed significant forest areas lacking tree coverage. For example, the mountain on the left should have trees but appears barren.
are barns still apartment buildings, how about round petrol tanks, are they also buildings?
Are all the skycrapers modeled with correct heights around the world, and i am not talking about TIN melts.
People commented on videos I uploaded, that the maps were old.
I know the maps have not changed since release. For example there are Toys’ R’ Us buildings all throughout the world, because in 2014 when the bing maps for MSFS 2020 were made, there were still Toys R Us locations. But in 2020, they aren’t there in real life, but they are there in the sim.
Will MSFS 2024 still have the same Toys R Us locations, or will these be updated and if they will be updated, what time frame era are they being updated from?
If this could be answered prior to release, that’d be great.
Good info, just not what I was hoping for. Photogrammetry for me was one of the best aspects of flight sim.
When I mention Toys R Us’s being in MSFS 2020, those are only visible in cities with photogrammetry. I will need a lot more than just LA and Miami to justify purchasing a new sim.
I can’t imagine someone flying over Regina Canada and seeing a Toys R Us there and it not be an immersion breaker.
I heard the developers are intending on updating both 2024 and 2020 maps, but this update will not be available upon initial release of 2024.
Hollar when we have a confirmed date for updated maps. I’ll refrain from getting any hopes up until there’s a confirmed date and confirmation there will be updates.
That is awesome if true, but it’s conflicting with what others have said. Is there a source for it being available at launch? Is it safe to assume the new aerials will be updated on both the new and older versions same day?
It would be a shame not to use newer data. That’s why people used that particular mod to replace it so i don’t blame them if they don’t want to see aerials 10 years old…
I’m more interested in the photogrammetry cities. The detail was really incredible in 2020. The only complaints I heard in photogrammetry cities were outdated buildings. The detail low level was really impressive as you’re not really supposed to be flying low enough to read billboard signs.
No offense intended, but very very rarely do I pay attention to store fronts when flying. Even when I fly over cities, I certainly don’t crawl at street level. In 4 years, the lowest flying I’ve done where I’ve really paid attention to buildings is I’ve flown over my house a handful of times (non photogrammetry) and my work 2 or 3 times (photogrammetry). It’s really neat to see - don’t get me wrong - but then I went on to actually flying about, mostly at altitude and focusing on scenic views and my plane’s systems.
I would call big city warped/melted skyscrapers far more immersion breaking than whether or not there’s a Toys 'R Us sign. It’s all relative. Again, kudos to you if your system performs that well that you’re picking out random store fronts on a regular basis, it’s just not something a long-time simmer on a relative budget like myself is concerned about. I remember when buildings were flat grey blocks and grass was flat green. Complaining of an old sign on a building shows just how indescribably far we’ve come with flight sims and it would hardly stop me from purchasing this.
