what makes taxiing difficult for me is the fact that any aircraft with thrust reversers just continues
to get INTO reverse thrust when you use buttons for your throttle control.
The throttle should (under ANY circumstances) stop at 0% and any reverse thrust below that,
should need the REVERSE THRUST button / control triggered, in order for the throttle lever
to be able to move in that exact area to adjust the reverser power.
PLEASE UPVOTE and feel free to discuss this down below.
I’m wondering if you can override this by assigning a key mapping to Toggle Reverse Thrust. By default I believe it’s unmapped. Then even holding down F2 might only drop you to the bottom of the power range instead of into Reverse?
I’d actually say that all aircraft with reverse thrust that I have operated have a detent for reverse thrust. Rather than having a ‘reverse thrust button’, simply stopping at idle when holding the decrease thrust button, should require simply a further decrease thrust button press.
ie: F2 for decrease thrust until idle, F2 again to go into the reverse thrust range.
Joysticks also need to be able to select reverse thrust simply by moving the throttle lever all the way down, like in the real aircraft. Joystick throttle needs to be able to set a detent position and ‘dead’ range for that detent.
I’m using the toggle reverse button. It’s IMO the most realistic way.
Move the throttle to idle (0%) > ‘unlock’ reverse by pushing the ‘toggle reverse’ button > modulate reverse thrust within the normal throttle range.
There are two bugs:
Most annoying IMO is the wrong reverser animation. Unlocking the reverser, or idle reverse should fully open the reverser doors/cowls instead.
Presently they change their opening angle with the amount of reverse thrust.
The other problem (which doesn’t only affect reverse) is the toggle function.
Each toggle action doesn’t result in 0% forward/reverse idle, but increases forward/reverse throttle by ~7%. The next toggle will result in a 14% throttle change, etc.
Toggle Reverse does work on the new TCA stick. I have to hard set it into so called Mode 2 where the detent acts as a button, but once I cross over into that range, TR is activated. Shoving the throttle full up then maxes TR effect. To get back normal forward thrust I must repeat the process.
