Strange Aerodynamics in Clouds

Does anyone else notice any bizarre aircraft motion when flying in clouds, or worse yet, in clouds around mountains? I believe the sim models terrain/wind interaction, but I wonder how accurate it is. Is the sim trying to model thunderstorm up/downdrafts? It seems that in IMC conditions flying in clouds, the aircraft is often difficult/impossible to manage. A few times crossing ridges, I have been forced into the ground. I assume this is suppose to model the real world, or is it just glitching? I know about how approaching ridge lines in light aircraft can cause disaster. But how accurate is the terrain/wind interaction model? Or is it just kind of willy-nilly blowing you around randomly?

Right now the cloud turbulence is actually understated. They limited it.

In the real world you wouldn’t fly a plane into towering cumulonimbus. It could even flip an airbus upside down, or drop/raise planes several thousand feet in a very short amount of time (that’s why pilots do everything in their power to avoid them).

Airspeed is dropping by about 10kts ingame while incloud…

An other thing on the list of things to fix

Yeah. The bizarre motion is that the aircraft flight is so lame. There does now seem to be some vertical wind in cloud but it’s almost undetectable. We all know that winds in CBTS are pretty nasty, but even fluffy little fair weather clouds can be pretty wild.

I learned this as a kid flying with my uncle to an airshow in his Bonanza almost a lifetime ago. Under about 6 octas of a layer of pretty benign looking fair weather cumulus, we were being forced towards the MSA so he decided to climb up above the cloud rather than turn back (he was an experienced pilot and IMC rated…). As we entered the cloud, the VSI hit the stop and after what seemed like the wildest elevator ride of our lives, moments later, we were spat out the tops at about 8000’. Those days, the Bonanza and my uncle are very long gone … but these memories will be with me always.

If Asobo want MSFS to truly be a flight simulator, they need to turn UP (or allow us to turn up) the effects of turbulence in these conditions.

They mentioned changes are coming in the last Q&A live stream, hopefully this year.

Yeah, I dont detect any microbursts or updraft/downdrafts. It just seems to do something wonky with the speed and heading maybe for a few seconds. The winds are a mess, of course. Lots of things to fix.

Let’s hope so. I am optimistic - I love the weather engine and how dynamic it can be. It has the potential to be fantastic.
