Stuck at the same airport on world map

Hello,

I’ll post my question here, not sure where it belongs: I can only set the free flight settings on the world map the first time. On all subsequent attempts, all settings are ignored and I always start at the airport and with the plane that was set the first time.

If I reset the app via the control panel, I can make new settings once, but afterwards they are preserved again, no matter what I set afterwards.

Reinstalling did not fix the problem. Does anyone know any advice?

Thanks in advance!

Are you saying that you can’t select a different aircraft or starting location from the world map planner?

Yes, but I have since found out that this is due to a non ASCII letter in the user profile. And that the problem has been known for a long time and is still not solved.

Errors because of non ASCII characters in 2022 are ridiculous.

I thought it was to do with characters being non-Unicode rather than non-ASCII.

Hi!
Did you solve the problem? Did you have to reinstall Flight Simulator?
I have the same problem, I changed now my Microsoft Store name but havent reinstalled the simulator, still not working, same airport and plane everytime

Per the last two responses just above your post, it appears the issue is with having non-standard characters in the user profile. Seems to be a question as to whether it’s non ASCII letters or non-Unicode. But if you have either of those, I’d see if it resolves the issue if you delete the character that meets either of these conditions and see if that resolves your issue.

Thanks, I try that now :grinning:

Hi, still not working, are we talking about the Xbox-profile or Windows Store-profile?
I changed characters on both, only name that still contains scandic letter is the original name that Microsoft asked when creating the account, not user name…

I’m going to ping @hobanagerik here since he has better information on that issue (for Hobanagerik, please see above 5 discussion points concerning the issue with non-standard characters).
Thanks for your help @hobanagerik !!

Hi,

From memory I believe it was to do with the characters in your Windows username.

Neither, it’s the account you log in to Windows with. There is another thread about this.

Maybe try this workaround.

Sadly, the permanent fix is to rename your Windows user account.
