I had the same checking for updates issue today. Nothing worked, then I used my NordVPN subscription and connected to their US server (I am based in Europe) to try and force MSFS to use the US server instead. Guess what, it worked on the first try after that. It seems that it’s possible the reason for it not working could be a MS Server Issue (like @SilentOption150 said)
