Stuck on the "Checking for Updates" screen while the game tries to install

Its back on!

It just gave me Continue button to install some 0 mb content, I pressed Continue, and it started working. yeah!!!

I thought my game got corrupted like Windows 98 25 years ago. Lolx.

Happy Flying!

Confirmed – working again now …

If only all MS server outages were that short

Sorted out in Europe too

In addition to the VPN, I also freed up some extra storage on my drive and that also seems to have fixed it for me.

Live weather is working again as well ..

Couldn’t fly yesterday, the sim it is working OK now…

Maybe the update loop is fixed but server issues are far from being solved yet I would say. Do you see those periodic peaks on the yellow graph? With both main thread and GPU latencies below 16 ms and 50fps they should simply not be there. Graph should be steady and flat as it was before but the coherent threads are showing lots of spikes.

Just tested it over Jordania-Israel border (generic area with no WUs).

Cheers

I have been trying to solve this problem for over a year now and no article helped me fix this. This is a shame because I bought this in the start of the year of 2023 and I wasn’t even able to TRY the game. Can someone please help? Its stuck in the checking for updates screen for OVER A YEAR! Please help me!

I don’t know what all you have done as far as troubleshooting goes, but in case you haven’t seen this, it is the checklist for this issue:

  1. you turn off power your router and waiting for few minutes then turn on power it
    your game is working normaly
  2. check dns in network settings, you can see 2 series number dns, set manual dns and fill it
example my case: primary 8.8.8.8 and secondary 8.8.4.4

The same problem here since 04/06/24.
One day before everything was working perfectly…
I really do not know how to fix it.
I’ve tried to change the DNS IP and a bunch of studs read here and through the internet.

I’m having the same… No way I can skip checking for updates

Me as well, been getting it almost every time I load it, but not 100% of the time. Sometimes quitting and reloading works, other times a complete reboot of the system. Doesn’t matter if I have anything in the Community or not.

This is definitely a new thing, either an SU15 or a Microsoft Windows patch. Something very recently started messing it up.

So far the best way to circumvent it is to disable my network adapter when it gets stuck. It will give me the connection lost message and allow me to continue. I then enable the network adapter back in the main menu and continue as usual. Which of course is only useful as long as there isn’t an actual update.

Who came up with the forced updates anyway? I know they are necessary for the initial install, but after that why not put them all in the content manager?

Anyways, very much broken and very much a recent thing.

What works for me whenever I get stuck at the checking for updates screen is starting Microsoft Store and updating the Store app (or everything by clicking on Get Updates). Once I have done this, the sim always starts up without any problems. Hope it helps you guys too.

If you’re running Steam like I am, you can try exiting Steam itself, restarting Steam, and then MSFS. That’s worked for me twice now, but it could just be a coincidence.

BTW I’m having to start multiple times because I’m developing, and of course to reload the airport files, I have to exit, copy the files to Community, then restart.

Also a new thing for me here too, especially after a sim CTD (which seem to be more frequent now after SU15)

Same here. Reboot didn’t help. What helped was either one or both of:

  • Shutting down SPAD.NEXT and starting the sim first, then SPAD.NEXT
  • Starting the sim from within the xbox app on my PC

Signing out/in of x-box and the store, running all the updates in the store, running the gaming repair tool. Nothing got me past the checking for updates screen. Tried a VPN and it is working now. But for how long. Encountered CTD’s again after a long time. Problems introduced with version 1.37.19.0
