Stutter on camera pan when idle for >60 seconds

I tested with downloaded and installed LSZH - no affect.

Hey, thanks for the video. I will say I can prob replicate this pretty easily with the very simple airport selected / not much PG / no traffic. Q is should the sim run this smoothly when all of the addons that you can purchase on the marketplace are up and running. Something like ini KLAX with some traffic using the fenix. That’s when the stutters are present for me. Vanilla game with not much going on is pretty smooth.

For my tests I was actually running MSFS with the following addons installed and active:

So it wasn’t a completely ā€œcleanā€ vanilla setup with nothing going on in the background - the most proper way to benchmark would be to test everything without addons first. But honestly, MSFS 2024 is running so well on my hardware that I figured … why not push it a bit and test it the way I actually use it, with addons installed

I mean actually flying at KLAX with PG, traffic in the fenix with high / ultra settings. Not just having a bunch of addons in your community folder. That’s a pretty hard area to have a stutter free experience.

This bug is especially noticeble in southwest germany, switzerland and certain parts of the east and west coast of the USA. It makes the game almost unplayable due to the immersion braking stuttering in those areas

Same for me, sim runs flawless almost everywhere except in the approximate triangle EDDS-LOWI-LSZB. Does not matter if i have addons enabled or an empty community folder, tuned down settings or maxed out, addon aircraft or default.

Are you talking about PG areas? Because the PG areas in these regions are sooo badly optimized, I also notice it in GA planes. The PG there seems to completely overload the system.

PG has not much to do with it… as Tokyo, Rio, Sao Paulo and London run pretty good in comparison and they are bigger. The problem occurs also on some mountain landscapes of Switzerland or some US east coast countrysides without any PG. In my opinion the problem has no relation to PG.

Its not even related to PG or the complexity of the scenery. Its something wrong with caching of the data in those areas. The stuttering is not only limitated to the camera panning in those areas … the whole sim stutters there.

If you open the console while landing/after landing/panning, you will see things constantly getting loaded again and again just at the stutters appears.

I think, this is the big misunderstanding here. It is not wrong, but it is much better than before. The new algorithms free VRAM, so it is available, when it is needed. This saves us from large stutters during whole game and replaces it by small stutters in a very certain situation. See the threads about performance drops due to VRAM usage before SU4. They are completely gone. This is the far smaller drawback compared to the former problems. A lot more people were suffering from VRAM problems before. Now it is visible during panning after waiting for 60 seconds. But only then. The rest of the game is fine.

Alright, so i had some time yesterday to dive into this. I have read in other topics that France VFR sceneries seemed to be the culprit for some people. I have had a few installed, which according to FranceVFR were MSFS24 compatible. I have had no performance issues flying into these FranceVFR airports themselves. But for testing if it causes stutters elsewhere, I deactivated them through AddonLinker. The FranceVFR sceneries i have are the French VFR objects, the Paris Airfields and LFKB/LFKJ/LFKC. I tested with the deactivated FranceVFR addons, but the stutters were still there at LSZR, LSZH, EDDS. Then i tried with an empty community folder, no addons whatsoever. Still stutters. I tried disabling all Asobo sceneries from the Germany/Switzerland World Update. Still, stuttering. Now, yesterday i found out that the deactivated FranceVFR sceneries were still ā€œactivatedā€ in the Content.xml. I used the AddonLinker Content.XML editor to remove the FranceVFR entries. The stutters are now gone. Not sure why, but Southern Germany and Switzerland are smooth again. Hope this may help others experiencing the same issue. My specs are 7800X3D, 64GB DDR5, RTX4070Ti Super.

So I guess this issue won’t be fixed before SU5 release…

I do agree it happens mostly on some 3rd party sceneries.

My question is, if the 3rd parties are the cause, why do they work with no issue once we are loading in the airport, but once arriving to the same airport its stutters when panning ?

Presumably because when you are away from that location, that information has been dumped from memory, and has to be re-loaded into memory. It’s not caching everything, all the time. If you want an easy example of this, while parked fire up the drone camera, and fly away from that location for a few minutes. Now press the key to turn drone mode off.

For me I think it’s the Insert key, rather than End for the other camera mode. What you may see is low detail graphics around you as data has been removed from memory, and replaced with lower LOD versions of them. You may even briefly see a low LOD cockpit panel as well. I’ve even see it where you get a kind of partial panel thing going on, where some dials are blurry while others look normal.

You can also press the R key which flies the drone camera very quickly back to its home position near the plane. That really will make the sim stutter as it has to very quickly load all the scenery in between where it was, and wher it now is. That’s kind of a built in torture test.

I see.

In MSFS2020 I dont have this issue whatsoever.

That’s odd because everyone should have it as far as I know. I don’t remember 2020 being greatly different in that regard. If you fly the drone camera away for long enough, then quickly come back, you may find your plane is upside down as the sim unloads the scenery around the plane.

I am not sure if its the latest beta or something else but for the first time it seems to be greatly improved !

i generally have more stutters in SU5 compares to SU4. especially at big airports when moving around or panning the camera. SU4 was better in this regard

Hello folks,

Our internal test team was not able to reproduce this issue. Is anyone still experiencing this with the final SU5 release build (1.7.27.0)?

Note: I’m asking about the specific stutter mentioned by the OP associated with camera pan after being idle for 60+ seconds. I’m not asking about any other stutters you might be experiencing in SU5.

Thanks,
MSFS Team
