Stutters and frame loss at arrival airport

ISSUE DESCRIPTION

Landing at arrival airports result in stutters and frame loss, despite perfect fluid frames before during the flight

FREQUENCY OF ISSUE

everytime

REPRODUCTION STEPS

Start a flight and land at a biger airport

Situation is as following:

Starting at and airport (e.g. EDDB) very good frames.

Other flight, but arrive at this above airport EDDB, horrible stutters.

Sit a (long) while at EDDB after landing, frames recover

YOUR SETTINGS

nothing more then “High”

I did almost the same flight (EDDB to EDDK), and on arrival there was FPS drops and stuttering. To check the data i enabled dev mode and suddenly the issue was fixed. No idea whats going on

I’m not able to replicate this. This used to be a problem on my end but hasn’t in quite some time.

I’m on Xbox series X and the same happens on the current build and the last build. The first build however was almost perfect. Departure airport is smooth, and so is the rest of the flight until final approach, then the stutters and freezes start.

Cannot confirm. Smooth stutter free experience from taxi, takeoff and landing. Not a single stutter.

My TLOD and OLOD is at 100

Hardware: Core Ultra 7 265kf oc and RX7900XTX.

Maybe reduce those mentioned settings if higher.

Nothing to do with systems. i have a beefy system yet facing the same issue on arrival

Then you must have a completely different MSF24 version installed. Or your settings are too high, even for a beefy system.

And please don’t come up with TLOD 400.

This is a widely reported issue, stutters at landings, even in the SU4beta. So no need to suggest a different version of MSFS24 unless you are not in the beta yourself (which this topics is about)

Agree, stutters are back, Maybe not all the time, more randomly now but obviously much more present than in SU3… I get it on take off and landing. And it comes from nowhere… smooth frame rate during intense visuals and then without any obvious visual changes suddenly severe stutters and even micro pauses appears. :expressionless_face:

Yes…and then all looks really bad. Not too many of us would like to fly with these settings. What`s the point of using the sim with poor graphics anyway.

It is very simple. Your settings have to match your hardware can deliver, not what you wish too see.

Xbox - excellent flight except for departure (Edinburgh) and landing (Madeira). Stutterfest at EGPH, then smooth 4-hour flight, then stutterfest on short final, touch down, roll out, and parking at gate. Ini A320n.

same here, even with lod at 100 landing there are always stutters, especially during landing roll, yhats with a vanilla windows , msfs2024 SU4 and fenix or inibuilds a350 with a 9950x3d and 5090.

For me, a lot of stuttering went away when I did 2 things:

  • disabled Live Traffic.
  • fly without opening the EFB ( at least avoid after initial set up. specifically, changing flight plan in the EFB seems to cause a permanent or long lasting degradation, reported in another thread).

Might be worth trying an experiment:

  • In Settings (on PC) turn Aircraft Traffic Quantity to OFF
  • When setting up Flight, turn Live and AI Traffic OFF
  • Try your flight to see if stuttering is less

Also, if on PC, try lowering the following in Settings:

  • Texture Resolution (lower by 1 setting)
  • Parked Aircraft Quantity (try Low or Off)
  • Airport Vehicle Quantity (lower by 1 setting)

I flew the 787-10 in to CYYZ yesterday with out stutters, Live Traffic on but at lowest quantity setting. TLOD 400 on 9800X3D, RTX 5090, TAA at 80 render scale, Frame Limit 32 + Frame Gen x2, Ultra settings.

But if I have Traffic and Parked Aircraft on High or Ultra, just loading in to the gate I get stutters, which gets worse as you start to taxi. So try Traffic off to see if it helps.

I’m experiencing stutters too.

Landing at EGLL the frame rate remains high (60 FPS with FG enabled) but really bad panning stutters and taxi stutters. I thought it might be to do with inibuilds EGLL, so I reverted back to Gaya default. Exactly the same issue.

Test aircraft were the Fenix A320 and PMDG 777W.

If I start a flight from EGLL, its very smooth with only the occasional stutter.

Running 4K, i7 12700K, 4090 RTX, 64GB DDR4 RAM.

Sim settings at Ultra but I see the same at High.

Same issue for me on arrival airports. In addition to the runway texture getting still blurry and reloading - which I think is part of the stutters.

Happens on both - default and addon airports. It’s somehow particularly bad, when doing a rotation A to B → B to A, on return to A.

PC - Store Version - FSR 3 FrameGen on - 32GB RAM.

So if I understand you guys correctly, you get blurred scenery at A if you fly from A to B and back again. A is fine on initial load but blurry when you return.

The obvious question I have is what are your rolling cache settings?

It is possible that they are set too low. When you start the scenery for A is loaded into cache but over the journey it gets replaced and therefore needs to be reloaded again at destination, causing what you see.

It might be that increasing your rolling cache will solve/reduce your issue. I would suggest trying at least 64GB, if you are currently set to less than that.

During a two-hour flight in 1.6.15.0, the performance was the best I’ve seen in any build so far. Even the stuttering when panning the camera was gone and the experience was nearly perfect…until the landing at BOS: the moment the wheels touched down, I experienced massive stuttering for about 15 seconds.

As the title of this thread already says:
You can take off under the exact same conditions, with the same aircraft and runway direction, and everything runs perfectly smooth but when you land under identical circumstances, you get a slideshow.

I find it especially frustrating because landing is the most demanding phase of flight, when concentration is at its peak, and stuttering completely breaks immersion.

Happens at both ends - but it’s particularly bad on return to A. Rollingcache is set to 64GB on an SSD.

But it’s not only at the airport - something is broken with Off Screen Terrain Pre Caching too, as mentioned in another thread. Because it constantly reloads, as soon as you just look another way - even on ultra.

What I noticed on several flights now, everytime I land or I am close to touchdown at the arrival airport, the allocated RAM peaks over the retail budget - which seems odd to me. In this pic, it states it’s over the budged - even though the PC has about 9GB physical RAM at spare, and the page/swap file has about 26GB at spare (max set to 48GB, was filled at max at 32GB).

So something seems to be weird with the memory usage. This happens regardless of the airplane (default or addon) or scenery.
