Stutters during landings and takeoffs

ISSUE DESCRIPTION

Description of the issue: When I run the simulator for more than 30 minutes or so, the performance near the ground, especially in airport areas, degrades significantly, compromising takeoff and landing procedures.

[PC Only] Did you remove all your community mods/add-ons? If yes, are you still experiencing the issue?

Yes. I don’t have any mods or add-ons in my Community folder.

FREQUENCY OF ISSUE

How often does this occur for you (Example: Just once, every time on sim load, intermittently)?

It occurs every time I load the sim, but I need to run it for a while before the issue happens.

REPRODUCTION STEPS

Please list clear steps you took in order to help our test team reproduce the same issue:

  1. Run the sim in free flight mode;
  2. Take off from any airport and fly for a while (30 minutes);
  3. Land at any airport and take off again;
  4. During the landing and second takeoff, compare the FPS between them and the first takeoff.

YOUR SETTINGS

If the issue still occurs with no mods and add-ons, please continue to report your issue. If not, please move this post to the User Support Hub.

What peripherals are you using, if relevant:

Not applicable.

[PC Only] Are you using Developer Mode or have you made any changes to it?

No, I didn’t.

[PC, MSFS 2020 Only] Are you using DX11 or DX12?

Not applicable, since I’m running MSFS 2024.

[PC Only] Many issues may be due to an outdated graphics card. Please state your Graphics Card Driver Manufacturer (NVIDIA, Intel, AMD) and Version:

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 - Driver Version 566.36

[PC Only] What other relevant PC specs can you share?

Intel(R) Core™ i7-10750H CPU @ 2.60GHz 2.59 GHz

RAM 32,0 GB

WIndows 10 22H2

If relevant, provide additional screenshots/video:

How many GB has your 2060? With 8GB or less it is ESSENTIAL to turn texture resolution to medium or low…at least my findings :wink: Watching your video I’m pretty sure you’ve made your VRAM stall…:slightly_frowning_face:

Hi @DigoAmorim737 ,

Thank you for this report. We’ve moved your topic into the User Support Hub.

The Bug Reporting Hub is for posting suspected or confirmed bugs that other users are able to reproduce without duplicating an existing bug report. Using the template or providing all the relevant information about your bug and sim setup is required in order to provide valuable information, feedback, and replication steps to our test team.

If you are not sure if your issue is a bug or need further input from the community, please use the User Support Hub category. If the community can replicate your issue, first search the Bug category to see if there’s an existing topic. If it already exists, contribute to that report. Duplicate bug reports will be closed.

If you believe it is a new report and no duplicate exists, then create a new bug topic using the provided topic template.

All issues caused by or involving third-party addons/mods should be reported to the third-party developer. Assure that no addons/mods are used when reporting issues in Bug Reports.

Hi!

I partially agree with you, but the behavior should be constant, at least. It shouldn’t decrease performance during the sim usage.

If the time of flight decreases the performance, probably won’t exist enough VRAM run to a long haul for example.

Hi @DementedCorn327,

Thank you for your response. However, I must admit that it’s quite frustrating to see a topic that is clearly a bug being moved to another area as if it weren’t a bug that needs to be fixed.

I followed the entire template provided, uploaded a video showing the issue, and yet it seems likely that this bug will be set aside indefinitely.

Before posting my topic, I researched this issue thoroughly. The only information I found was old posts informing that this kind of stuttering was resolved in version 1.2.7, which is not the case.

At the end of your message, you suggested opening another bug report if I believe it’s truly a bug and not a duplicate one. I’m sorry, but I did exactly that before posting this topic, hoping it would be treated as a legitimate bug as I mentioned from the start.

It’s really frustrating to purchase something and receive this kind of post-sale treatment.

In any case, I’ll wait for this issue to be resolved eventually because I’m confident it will be. However, I would appreciate it if my report could be classified as a bug and allow me to track its resolution, rather than receiving a semi-automatic standard message asking me to repeat the same steps I have already completed.

Does the stutrering cease after landing? Is your taxi and shutdown laggy as well?

Yes, it does. When I’m taxiing, the lag fades away.

If I try to land in the middle of the city, the lag also doesn’t happen. Crazy, isn’t it?

@DigoAmorim737
I see that your mobile RTX 2060 GPU doesn’t have enough VRAM. The game requires more which is causing the stuttering. Lower your graphics settings to reduce the demand on VRAM. Additionally, there is a known bug related to VRAM usage in the game. You’ll need to be patient and wait for updates or fixes from Asobo.

Thank you for taking time to fill in the template and reading the instructions. There can be so many root causes to the graphical issues that my advice is 1st to create a topic in the User Support Hub Install, Performance & Graphics to look for assistance, advices from the community.
By providing information on your system, hardware, MSFS graphical configuration, other users can help to determine where the issue could be, make some recommendation to change your settings so that you can test again and maybe resolve your issue.
The stutters issue at airport has been fixed in the last version 1.2.8.0.
There is also an ongoing issue with VRAM as commented by @TenPatrol : FPS performance - VRAM bug?
As recommended above, try to lower your graphic settings to reduce the demand on VRAM.

I also have a RTX2060 (super) coupled with a Ryzen 5 3600, 16GB RAM.
I let MSFS setup automatically the graphics settings during the install (many settings are low/medium, I know I cannot set all on high/ultra) and don’t have noticeable stutters.
