Stutters on Landing (airliners)

Hi

I seem to get a lot of micro stutters on landing, and taxi to gates.

This is with the PMDG 737-800 for msfs24.

General settings

DLSS quality / frame gen x2

Max frame rate 30

Vsync half refresh rate

Dynamic on (30)

LODS are set to max

Most graphical settings like trees, rocks are on low.

my system specs

Lg cx oled 120hz

7800x3d , 4070ti super, 64gb ddr5 ram

Nvidia control panel settings are all on default. I use DLSS swapper to get latest preset k.

Anything I should try to improve performance?

Thanks

I would try the following with your PC:

Leave DLSS/Quality (are you running DLSS v310.4.0/preset K?)

Frame Gen OFF

Vsync to set to Monitor Rate

Dynamic ON, 60 FPS target

From there, maybe tweak some Ultras down to High or Medium, as desired.

Cheers!

I am also seeing this in VR. It’s not as bad as it was with SU3, but they are still there…. Most notable in larger airports like LAX, JFK, YYZ, etc…. Although I feel like its more noticeable at Asobo airports than third party?

In a nutshell, your PC (specifically your CPU) isn’t strong enough to run this sim with LODs maxed out. At the very most, on approach, you would want a TLOD of 200, but I’d suggest 150 with that setup. I’m running a 9800x3D and 4090 and I make sure below 1000ft my TLOD is 200.

Ironically, turning your graphics settings down is actually exacerbating the issue as the GPU is having an easy time of it whilst your CPU (which LOD is almost entirely dependent on) is maxed out.

Agree, I missed the maxed out LODs. Even with Dynamic on, which will lower TLOD/OLOD under loads, a reasonable starting point per PC is still a good idea.

Yeah using latest DLSS via DLSS swapper.

The LODS perhaps I should try 150, which is what I used to use, but then tried maxing them out with the dynamic setting like suggested in the thread on here that suggested it trying it.

As above I should maybe up my some graphics settings to take the load off the cpu.

If I lower my LODs to 150 would dynamic setting 60 still be a good idea?

Max framerate off?

Thanks chaps

Try 150, you can always go up if that works. FG is CPU intensive, so I suspect turning that off will help some. Try Dynamic at 60 FPS with Max frame rate off and see how that goes. You can always add back some limitations one at a time, but DLSS/Dynamic will do a lot of the work for you. Cheers

I think this is a PMDG 737 specific issue. I too get the same stutters, specifically only after switching on the aircraft (i.e battery). It’s butter smooth until then. It stutters only when zooming in on the aircraft and out. Also when switching views. When I try to power off the aircraft the stutters dont stop however. Then I tried the same with the Fenix A320 (which is comparbly complex) and didn’t have the issue.

PC Specs:

i9-13900k, RTX 4090, 64 GB RAM.

Ive not had a chance to test yet, but I’ve lowered some settings and going to try the new DLSS 4.5 at weekend and may try DLSS balanced as opposed to quality which I currently use.

I think it was my settings more so as my CPU seemed to be getting hammered as opposed to my GPU that was having an easy time, just need to get the balance I think.

I will update once I have had a chance to test any changes.

Running a lower DLSS quality will only make the situation worse. The only thing that will help you is lowering your LODs, be that via the menu, via dynamic settings or by another method that can’t be discussed here.

Yeah I’m going to lower LODs, but why would using say DLSS performance for example make it worse, as opposed to DLSS quality that I’ve been using.

Because you’re making things even easier for your GPU. You only need to be playing with DLSS quality levels if your GPU is maxed out, if it isn’t there’s no need to lower your graphics settings.

And this would be the big win for me on my PC: DLSS 4 → 4.5 enabled me to move from Quality → Performance with no glass cockpit quality losses that were previously there for me in DLSS 4.

Well, this problem of stuttering and lags, when passing the treshold of the runway, has been really improved by Asobo, but, for me there is still room for improvement. I did a lot of flights, with the fenix or, the PMDG 738, and as sson as I’m at 50 feet from the runway, it begin to lag, and to have stutters… I tried today at LEBB (Bilbao) and it has been awfull for me… Even if i was at my capped FPS (45 FPS*2) during my entire flight, I came down to 12 FPS on the runway… I guess we have nothing to do, but wait, for further imporvement by Asobo. Because i have the feeling that i tried everything :sad_but_relieved_face:
