SU12 Beta

Yeah, I just don’t get why it is like that here (I’ve visited the dev forum and seen how it works there). I don’t understand why we get to communicate directly with WT and not with Asobo.

Another mystery of life, I suppose. Sigh.

I also really appreciate the dialogue we had with the team during the AAU1 beta. FWIW communication from Asobo during the weather fiasco last week was also better than what I’ve come to expect; previously they haven’t let the userbase in on the loop with technical details of a bug like that. So knock on wood, maybe this really is some progress toward some actual interactivity in the Asobo-userbase communication loop and will continue for the SU12 beta.

I do hope you’re right. It would be much more productive than how past betas operated. AAU I was pretty much the most meaningful, successful, and overall bug-free update the sim has seen so far, despite it being a MAJOR update. I attribute that 100% to the direct communication with WT. There are still minor niggles, but they’re aware and I’m confident these will get fixed.

The rest of the MSFS team at both MS and Asobo could learn a lot from that. Let’s hope they do.

Yeah, it feels like if you bother to report regression bugs, they just get thrown into a vague fix some day queue.

New features and uncompleted work might get some fine tuning.

I find I’m able to help at least help fix 3rd party content.

So far, that’s been my observation. Bugs directly related to new additions in the patch notes get looked at and fixed. Regression reports - even those reported on the very first day of the beta - don’t get logged at all. They may eventually be registered as bugs once they’ve been rolled out to the public build and are reported as “new bugs” in the forum bug report section.

To me, if New Feature A breaks Old Feature B, that’s not a new bug separate from the update. That’s a direct result of the update. Classifying it as a new, separate bug only makes it harder to diagnose down the road when they no longer have the context of what caused it. To me, that’s a very poor way to run a beta and a waste of testers’ time.

I gave up on reporting regression bugs during betas for that very point, they go ignored/pushed to the bottom of the pile. The list of regression bugs is now very long and there’s no sign of any urgency to fix what they have broken in updates dating back years now.

Oh and don’t get me started on the lack of communication during betas periods either, I’ve never known a developer be so quiet during a period whereby they need to gather as much information as possible…

Exactly what I posted above. AAU I went so well and produced what I would consider the best, relatively bug-free update MSFS has seen to date. It’s amazing how much you can get across to developers when they directly engage testers and discuss potential issues and bugs firsthand.

Hi!

Do you have a reference link to where you saw this?

flightsimulator.blog/2023/02/13/sim-update/

It says “Update” then mentions it

Add www. To front of link

Hello @RG2xbox,

We have not yet announced the start date of the SU12 beta. Anything you read online that doesn’t reference an official source should be treated as nothing more than a rumor.

Thanks,
MSFS Team

I love this kind of rumors, sometimes it’s better than when released. Here lives all the hopes and anxieties lol

Unless the blog owner changed what was there, Wednesday the 15th isn’t even mentioned on that page and this is a big brainfart. I still suspect it’s coming this week but Asobo is good at preventing the sorts of leaks that would result in accurate release date info showing up in a blog before it’s officially announced.

We will have a beta any day now. There was just an update on qa_upload!

Should be today or tomorrow if they are serious about a mid-March release.

Pretty sure I’ve seen an update drop the same day as a qa_upload change before, but it’s not common. Maybe happens more with mid-beta patches? Usually there’s also a big tipoff with a flurry of forum mod activity getting things ready for the new beta – haven’t seen any of that yet but maybe now with the forum reorg they’re better at doing that behind the scenes.

right on cue

What do we expect to be in SU12?

No one knows. There hasn’t been a snapshot update since October, and no real concrete details of SU12 have been discussed outside of WASM for Xbox. We’ll all be finding out when the beta drops and patch notes are published.

Don’t have any expectations. That makes every update a surprise.
