Frustratrion levels rising since SU12… Up to now was having minor issues updating with each SU, but no major drama. No issues with my community folder too. Enter SU12. Stuck at the decompressing various packages situation. Tried all written solutions to no avail. Ended up completely wiping my fine tuned MSFS to start all over again. Same story. Decompressing… stuck…shutting down, trying again, decompressing… stuck…
Seriously Asobo, how come everyone else can update their software normally, while the MSFS users get such an “awesone treat”??
Xbox deluxe purchase for PC…pffff

Are you on steam or microsoft store? If you are on the ms store version make sure all components are up to date. The ms store version is quite flakey, and prone to such errors. In this case the steam version is far better.
Have also already tried to remove the temp download file once it got stuck. This usually also resolves the problem?
It’s the version delivered through the XBox store (for PC). Already updated every single component (store and Xbox). I’m attempting to skip/delete the stuck .fspackage files. AV (ESET) protection is turned off, Nvidia driver updated, stopping and restarting the MSFS.exe to unstuck the update… what else can I do but vent the hate in the FS forum LOL…
Have you tried installing on a different drive? You can always move it back if it works.

Can you elaborate a bit on what “written solutions” have you already tried?
I had a rather similar issue and managed to solve it without reinstalling all. Microsoft Store version.
It looped on decompressing a file. Restarting MSFS had no effect : Same stuck situation forever on decompressing the same file.
What solved it:
I forced MSFS to stop when it was stuck in this endless decompress loop. Then I went to:
C:\Users(yourname)\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache\Packages\Official\OneStore
I found the guilty file and deleted it. (here appeared a file with same name as the one MSFS mentioned when stuck at decompressing).
The I restarted MSFS. It re-downloaded automatically the package containing the missing file.
Once done, it worked for me !
Looks like the decompress process has a potential weakness. Could auto-detection of such faults be implemented in order to automatically abort the decompression and restart the download process ?
Thanks for the reply. But already tried the “delete” the stuck file option multiple times. The most fresh situation: sim is stuck decompressing the following file: fs-base-cgl-0.1.75.fspackage.001. Upon checking in the packages folder I can see there is one compressed file fs-base-cgl-0.1.75.fspackage.zip and files numbered fs-base-cgl-0.1.75.fspackage.002 to fs-base-cgl-0.1.75.fspackage.066. No 001, so I deleted all fs-base-cgl-0.1.75.fspackage files. Let the sim update all night and found it stuck at the same fs-base-cgl-0.1.75.fspackage.001 once again…
Do you have enough free space on the drive you are installing to? (remembering that about 15% should always be left free)
More than enough (400GB+) on a SSD drive Samsung 850 EVO 1TB, with the latest firmware installed through the Magician (if that matters at all).
System is installed on Samsung 980 PRO 1TB M2 drive, also latest firmware installed.
Used the same drive with absolutely no issues since the release of the MSFS. Never had the update problem being so persistent.
Did you do that internet stack registry hack a few weeks back just before the last beta? If you did then undo it. With it in place my downloads were crawling, without they were better than ever.
I’ve done some tweaking more than a year ago. Can’t recall doing anything specifically to the registry. Can you please provide some details of this hack so I can double check?
But I assume it generally relates to the download speed rather than the decompression bug…
It was this hack but it only caused me problems (Windows11) …
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanServer\Parameters
Right-click on -Parameters> New> DWORD 32-
Name it -IRPStackSize -. Then double-click on it and change the value to 32 (If you already have it, just change the value)
I deleted this key (in bold) and MSFS downloads worked and decompressed properly again. Back up your registry beforehand just in case.

Decompressing fs-base-cgl-0.1.75.fspackage.001 is where I get stuck after several complete wipes and retry to install from scratch. Util this point the installation got stuck but managed to get it move forward with the “erase the stuck file” hack. Can’t find such file in the Packages/official to erase it and skip over… Can’t believe on a higher end machine I ended up so stuck with this update ■■■■.
The folder to delete is “fs-base” in the Official-One Store folder.
I don’t know exactly, but check your AVX BIOS settings.
MSFS used AVX commands.
Latest update… did prescribed by MS actions. Once again reinstaslled. Using Netlimiter to allow MSFS download @20 Mbps max. Removed my XMPII mem profile in BIOS (now auto). Diligently waiting on stuck packages. After another night of letting the updater do it’s thing, the pakcage I’m currently stuck is: asobo-modellib-texture-0.1.45.fspackage
Erased it few times… Back to downloading it and getting stuck there. Facepalm… Facepalm…
Are you using a cabled or wireless connection?
Tried resetting your router?
Cabled. Router reset done. Don’t think it has something to do with the connection because no matter the speed the packages download. The things go south on decompressing. I’m having suspicion the culprit might be related to the video driver… (GPU is heavily used in the process)

Funny or not my MSFS is still dead… Tried different drive, VPN, Netlimiter, updated Nvidia driver, fresh install 5-6 times, erased stuck fspackage files and what not… Tottaly stuck at the update phase… Perhaps I’ll have to wait for SU13 in hope they will somehow fix whatever doesn’t work on my system… Fkn unbelievable…
