SU5.1.30 Beta Xbox X
Clean Install and default 16gb rolling cache
LIVE Weather & Traffic
Unfortunately, this beta version does not correct the memory and performance issues introduced to the Xbox console with SU5’s new multithreading memory techniques. Performance and Stability continue to be subpar, unreliable and well below the standards set in SU4.
Using my standard high bar test of large airliners at large airports, a bar that was consistently met in SU4 tests; low memory warnings, CTDs and memory leakage continue to be present.
Using a mix of Default, PMDG and iniBuilds airliners at first and third party airports over the past several days, the persistent issues with SU5 continue to be present, making the Sim largely unplayable when compared to SU4 standards.
A mix of screenshots below shown that issues become immediately apparent upon Free Flight load in.
Other things of note that are also problems introduced in these SU5 Beta builds:
--The load time in Free Flight between clicking Start Flight to Begin Flight has increased significantly.
--Draw Distance for terrain LOD continues to be massive and all-consuming now on the console compared to SU4, a major cause of memory drain.
--LOD for small objects, such as signage along taxiways and default traffic models continues to be inappropriately low, meaning you can only see these things when you are right up on them, which is unrealistic and pointless. Some screenshots below show how slow default traffic models load in and how quickly their realism deteriorates as you pull away.
--Completed a flight from KSEA-KLAX in the default A330-200 and while I was able to complete it, the memory drain and leakage upon arrival at KLAX was too much and as I tried to exit Free Flight a CTD occurred.
--Live Traffic and Weather continue to be hampered by the new memory techniques of SU5, meaning as the Xbox works to preserve the loading of the aircraft and airport, these things are dropped entirely and attempt to reload over and over again.
All of these issues continue to make the case for a separate console version that is optimized for the Xbox’s unique memory sharing capabilities. The threading techniques introduced in SU5 work well for a traditional PC, but are not realistic on a console platform. This root issue must be addressed.
