Iâm sorry, but the year has nothing to do with it. Itâs how organisations, businesses, and infrastructure works. Always has been, always will be. You donât build a bridge that can take the weight of a million cars at once when it will only ever be used by 1000 cars in a day. You donât build a call centre with 1000 phone lines when the average call rate only requires 100. And you donât build servers with unlimited capacity for a niche product whoâs normal daily use is far less than the average online FPS.
If you think that this kind of capacity can simply be scaled up and down âeasilyâ then it shows how little you understand about how these things work. It doesnât matter if itâs Microsoft or whatever other company you care to name, they all follow the same general rules and canât just snap their fingers to create more capacity.
But I guess playing the blame game is easier and more satisfying than having a little patience these days.

A tip, download the update as soon as it is released. For me, it was like a rocket, now that everyone is allowed to download, it has slowed downâŠ

Most of the time all you see is Please Wait.
You donât get it. This is powered by a cloud service, they can seamlessly scale up the resources they use to serve the update without any long term commitments to that specific hardware.
And yes they can be scaled up and down that easily, I am a cloud infrastructure architect, I routinely scale workloads up across thousands (sometimes up to tens of thousands) of servers across multiple regions for periods of time during peak load, and then get rid of them when those resources are no longer needed. Thatâs the power of the cloud.
It is you that does not understand how these things work. I am informing you of this.
Here is a case study of Western digital scaling a simulation workload up to 1 million CPU cores (and who knows how many total TB of ram)
Another case study of a Top 100 supercomputer running in the cloud.
Both azure and aws have this kind of scale available. They were either unwilling, or unable to scale to the levels required to serve the update smoothly.

I had the same. I rebooted my PC then started MSFS 2020. Had a black screen after loading the two logo videos. Used Task Manager to quit out of MSFS 2020. Restarted MSFS 2020. Got redirected to MS Store to fetch a small 650MB download. Downloaded and installed in MS Store.* Restarted MSFS 2020 (3rd time if youâre keeping score). Got the Install Manager screen. 40GB incoming. Asobo donât make any of this easy.
*Youâll know youâre about to get the Installation Manager screen when you see a new loading screen after the Asobo and Blackshark logo videos have played. Should be an African scene with a yellow plane in the air and a Rhino on the ground.
