Exactly! How long has the community been asking for that fix?
Want this fixed more than anything else. Daytime flights are not as much fun or immersive.
On my PC, beta 1.8.11 feels a bit smoother than before. Less stuttering. There are still a few hitches, but they’re shorter and less bothersome. The frame rate seems more stable, too.
How about you?
I’ve noticed also sometimes when you skip to descent, the image quality goes downhill after!
Yeah, I’m having the same issue. After skipping to descent ATC not clearing my landing till I am over the runway and already turned around.
Here’s something fun to try. Open the Developer Mode, and use the teleport functionality to move to a distant airport. See how the terrain is super low quality, and takes a while to build up to where it should be.
That’s what you just did with skip to descent.
That’s part of the frustration. This issue has already been reported many times and was even marked as fixed back around SU3/4. With respect, I don’t think another bug report is the answer. I’m not posting this because no one has reported it, I’m posting it because many of us have tested every Sim Update since then, including SU6, and still don’t believe the issue has been adequately addressed. This is about letting the dev team know the original fix didn’t resolve the problem.
Navigation (position) lights, strobe lights, and beacon lights become nearly invisible in daytime conditions and lose visibility far too quickly with distance. Real aircraft lights are specifically designed to be seen from several miles away.
You forgot to mention your hardware configuration and how you tested SU6 beta. Which aircraft did you use, what airport(s) did you test and what was your FPLN (departure and destination)?
Two hours of aerobatics and low-altitude flying in areas with heavy photogrammetry—New York, the Grand Canyon, Sydney, etc.
Since I frequently fly over the same locations, I can gauge how the experience varies between MSFS versions; with version 1.8.11, it feels better than the previous one.
Very smooth performance—a few minor stutters, nothing major, but without that, it would be perfect in my opinion.
Given the rapid and frequent rotations involved in aerobatic flying, one is naturally more exposed to the stutters that occur during changes in viewpoint.
Specs: i9-14900F, AMD 9070XT GPU (up-to-date drivers), 64GB RAM; settings mostly on Ultra, TLOD 400, OLOD 200, frame rate capped at 75fps (38 x FG 2) to match my monitor’s 75Hz refresh rate.
Hello @Zadma,
I was not able to personally reproduce this. I tried the following scenarios just now in 1.8.11.0. I tested all four scenarios in both an NX Cub and a Cirrus Vision Jet and had the same result every time:
Scenario 1: Deliberately fly the aircraft into terrain
Result: Fade to black, “You crashed” message, Back on track
Scenario 2: Deliberately fly the aircraft into the side of a building
Result: Fade to black, “You crashed” message, Back on track
Scenario 3: Exceed aircraft’s VNE speed for more than a few seconds
Result: Fade to black, “You crashed” message, Back on track
Scenario 4: Put the aircraft into a dive to gain speed then pull hard back on the elevator, exceeding max G force limits
Result: Fade to black, “You crashed” message, Back on track
Is anyone else experiencing the same crash behavior as Zadma? If so, have you tried testing with all your mods/add-ons temporarily disabled in case there is a mod conflict causing this?
Thanks,
MSFS Team
I gave it a try in the stock TBM930 in a fully unmodded sim. Verified the assists were not turned on.
Crashed when running into the hanger; takeoff and departure stall/spin into the ground and crashed into the terrain; overspeed then separately over-G the airframe and crashed in both cases.
Cannot duplicate in these conditions/aircraft.
Regards
Very weird - community folder is empty, testing in the same aircraft/conditions as you, I cannot get the sim to trigger a crash. Not sure what’s going on. I’ll try clearing all relevant caches and try again. Only thing I have not tried is disabling all My Library content as that’s a bit tedious and usually a measure of last resort, personally.
It was painful to do but I am able to intentionally trigger a crash in Career mode (happy it’s beta Career
) but still not in Free Flight.
UPDATE: It fixed itself!
This is actually the second issue in this build that has done that - where I do nothing (or, actually, in both cases I make several changes but then revert them all) and suddenly it’s fixed.
Either way, thanks to all who attempted to replicate!
Maybe a confused setting? Like the setting was showing a wrong state for some reason. Toggling it off and on again can fix those most of the time.
Had those happen to me too once. Somtimes it’s just better to “reset to defaults” and set everything up again.
I had toggled it off and on a few times with no change. My only thought is that the front end toggle wasn’t actually changing the sim behavior, but since Career requires crashes to be enabled, playing a career mode flight forced the setting to allow crashes, and that persisted in Free Flight.
I used to have a test flight route: KLGA - Manhattan - KLGA, Cessna 172 Skyhak G1000. I think I stopped testing this area around SU4 because of the degradation - I noticed stutters in places where there were no stutters before.
Today I decided to check it again and it seems they must have improved something there, because the flight was really smooth. I also noticed that TLOD seems to have been improved in that area.
I wonder if it is possible that, for example, they can set different TLOD limits on the server side depending on the location - like max TLOD 200 in one area and max TLOD 100 in another? Just thinking out loud …
I think there are a fair number of people scratching their heads about what the goal of this SU is supposed to be.
Take this patch note for example:
Boeing 737 MAX 8
- Fixed an issue that caused the CABIN_LIGHT keys to behave incorrectly when bound to a device and used.
Why is this what we’re focusing on? This type of low hanging fruit could be fixed outside of a Sim Update with a simple passive background hot-fix. Is that not the benefit of being a fully-online software? Shouldn’t Sim Updates be focused on sweeping feature improvements? The more the sim matures, the more I question what’s going on behind the scenes and the development approach towards these updates.
Absolutely. The last three SUs have been a long list of tiny bug fixes. It doesn’t feel like the sim has been significantly ‘updated’ at all. Jorg also seems to be far less communicative about future direction.
This SU6 beta is only making the feeling stronger that the whole project is stagnating a bit.
