SU6 Release Notes (10-19-21)

Yup…it would be folks demanding immediate support for issues 3 or 4 build’s back with a 300GB community folder of mods to go with it🤣

There is a potential way around that. Take inspiration from Web APIs and have three branches:

  • Dev - Changes land here for [opt-in] public testing. Keep changes here for a while, before pushing them to…

  • Latest - The branch we are currently using, and the branch everyone gets when they first install the sim

  • Deprecated - The last version that was on latest

Each time a new version is ready for public testing (possibly after closed beta), it gets put on Dev, the version that was on dev gets shipped to Latest as the official Sim/World/Whatever update, and users get a choice… Update and stay on latest OR go to deprecated. If they move to deprecated everything still works, and they get to keep the old version, but they get prompted on start-up to update, something they should consider because the next time the cycle completes they will move to the new (now old) version.

This allows people to update when they want, but without having dozens of different versions.

Excited for this update!

Yeah well, the Web APIs are hardly as complex as this sim is, so keeping three version alive would require a massive amount of server space and admin overhead.

I just started a separate thread regarding some of the graphics GUI changes in SU6. Maybe I should have posted in this thread. I dunno. In any event, have a look over here for a suggestion on tweaks to the GUI:

Just went through the release notes. Very impressive!!! I can’t wait for SU6, I will finally have lights for vatsim traffic again

Anyone have any idea how big the update will be when it’s released (GB)?

The update hasn‘t even been released yet and people are complaining about it. You really HAVE to love this community.

Anyway, the changelog that is exclusive has yet to be written. I can‘t remember such a long list of bugfixes in any MSFS update before, maybe we could simply wait for it and evaluate it when it‘s out. And a beta is not a final release either.

In my case working without any problems (1.19.9.0)

Because you have another bind SET PAUSE OFF. By default (from start release) TOGGLE PAUSE work for ON/OFF statement. Now it work only for ON, but OFF not work anymore

I saw some very interesting ones on there that should help out the 3rd party devs a lot.
Eg. there are new functions to pull METAR data from the sim (If I’m interpreting the list item properly). That in itself will help work around the whole sim weather doesn’t match real sources issues.

The only real fail for me was SU5. It made me shelf the sim until WU6. Every update has introduced new features and bugs, bugs have never really been fixed so far but only hidden or worked around. I have honest hope that Asobo found the time now to address all these issues. They know too that you can not build on a broken base eternally, it will collapse at some point and in my opinion this point was met with SU5.

Everyone knows how fragile this sim is and this wouldn‘t matter if it was a closed system that can only be changed by Asobo. But flightsim has alwas been a base only with people almost exclusively flying addon aircraft. I count mods to addons for the record. There are many highly skilled modders and addon developers who develop all kind of software to play in line with this base sim and there can be no fragile system or it WILL collapse and fail. I can‘t imagine that Asobo are so ignorant to miss that but I am aware of the pressure under which my company works (car manufacturer). There are deadlines to be met and with basic stability plus xbox access done now there is hopefully time now to really work on the fundamental problems. We all (incl Asobo and MS) know that the sim was rushed out, MS PR is just blah. They also know that the sim will only generate money if it works the way the customers want and need it. Any application has to please its customers or it will fail, that‘s normal. MS is certainly not the best example for pleased customers but this is not a MS house product, it‘s Asobo, just like FS9 wasn‘t an MS product and it was great after the service packs.

When FSX was dropped there was no real business behind it, everything was still pretty nerdy and spread over dozens of forums with niche addons. PMDG was basically the only real high quality developer with hardly any infrastructure around (scenery, navdata, wx, controls etc). All that has changed massively, flightsim has become a multi million dollars business and MS/Asobo have started a new age of flight sim now. They won‘t let this fail, never. There is too much money, reputation and chance involved for so many services and technologies, this will become „something big“ for sure. It has been rushed, it‘s in a fragile state and this has to change. But it will, they can‘t run a base for this business if it breaks with every new addon or update.

I would agree based on the dev interviews. There was a bit in there about locking the code for release and the verbiage basically comes across as the release date drives, major reported bugs be ■■■■■■. IMO this philosophy is pretty apparent from the last sim update. I believe the view fixes were already well in path before the release, and that’s how the hotfix got out so quickly. There were critical issues from the TAs that made it to RTM. Just the design philosophy of “agile”. Just one opinion, YMMV.

New feature

The MS store is super bugged, user unfriendly, you need 10 open apps to even get a update lol… then Sonne time all msfs updates are deleted…
I don’t know why ms not making some steam copy…
this easy is a dead end. Avoid the
Ms store

I find this statement totally false. I have yet to have any major problems with any of the updates that made the sim “unplayable”. I hav3 had a few problems with third party aircraft that needed patches after the updates, but other than those, the updates have been overall improvements.

“Totaly FALSE”

Try reading this forum … the fact you do not have issues does not mean thousands and thousands of others have no issues … again read the forum for 5 minutes

So FALSE is a bit weird.

Hence the huge list of BUG fixes proof there are a lot if bugs also !

Lets talk again after the patch …
