SU6 Scenery Level of Detail Survey

Hi moderators, are there not enough replies with proofing pictures in this thread to state this as bug logged?

I think, there is a logges bug regarding LOD since day 1 of the FS2024…

Yes and believe the main thread is this one: Ground textures are blurry, LOD System is too aggressive, and Loss of Detail in 2024 - streamed scenery AND CLOUDS looks worse than 2020 - #1186 by matze254889272

Was the second highest bug if I recall before Asobo stopped publishing bug and Wishlist tables in the weekly briefings late last year. Think was only second to vram usage.

FYI, the bug reports & wishlists were covered in the last Developer Livestream in April. You can watch / see them here

Thanks and yes am aware they do still show and speak to these in the livestreams, was more so a comment that they used to be in the weekly briefings also. I believe the intent was to split briefings into general and then technical / development briefings, don’t believe the latter ever occurred unless I am missing these? Thanks

They were previously included each week, but it was just a copy/paste of what had already been presented in the last development Q&A. This new (well, almost a year old now, but “new”) format separates things into development blogs, which seem to align with whenever the development Q&A’s happen, and serve as a bit of a written summary of what happens then, along with sharing the bug and wishlist tracker from that moment in time. Here’s the most recent one, which came out after our last development Q&A (in April)

Ah got it. Thanks muchly

I have been flying a lot in Brazil for the last few days. Noticed that (at least for me) it really depends on where I fly. Flying on the more central part of Brazil with lots of forest was the worst: tiles popping in underneath the aircraft (seeing squares popping everywhere) and bad TLOD. Parts on the eascoast (for example: the route from Sao Paulo to Rio) looked perfectly fine with maybe a small blurred spot in the scenery but nothing significant. Flew back to Europe (Munich) today and again: looked good for the most part but around EDDM some blurred fields.

Deleting rolling cache seemed to help a bit but not eliminate the problem.

I thought this was interesting… was flying past some mountains in the italian alps.
For some reason some small spots (red) were loaded to the level of fidelity I would expect (and remember from FS2020). Other parts just remained blurry. How is this possible? Why is it happening?

Even after several minutes watching via dronecam it stayed this way.

Those are autgen overlay textures that get applied from a certain steepness of terrain mesh, I think. They don’t belong to the underlying satellite imagery, so they are generally higher res.

Central S America textures are horrible.

Ah, that explains it. Shame they stick out so much.

After SU6, scenery in many areas has changed and now appears as it should. However, the issue can still be observed in many locations.

I had the opportunity to see the problem yesterday during a flight from Bergen to Frankfurt, where the terrain and textures over the Norwegian fjords were still poorly detailed. Today, I observed the same issue again while flying over the islands on approach to Tenerife.

So, although SU6 appears to have improved the scenery in some areas, the underlying issue is still present and can be seen across different regio

Admittedly, this was the end of an 8hr flight from Orlando into Edinburgh in the A350, but if you can spot the runway let me know. Xbox x.

This looks like a VRAM issue.

This is how trees load in. TLOD at 600 photogrametry turned off with a 9850x3d/5090/64GB and SSD. Wired 500 mbps connection. This level of nerf is honestly a bit ridiculous for those us of who have the capacity to be able to crank the settings up. And the popping and flickering makes it ten times worse vs having them gradually fade in and out.
