Sudden Excessive Appearance of Autogen Trees After WU18

Has anyone else noticed areas where there is a sudden appearance of trees where they should not be? I just reported an area around Czech Republic’s LKMS in the bug section where I also noticed someone else is reporting a similar issue for Ireland’s Cliffs of Moher. It seems to be related to the latest 600MB update pushed because of WU18. It is not related to the fact if you installed the optional update itself or not.

This seems to have totally ruined some places. :frowning:

I flew into Heathrow today and was surprised how from the ground it looks like it is located in a forest! However I rarely visit in the sim so can’t say if it has always been like that.

I can confirm. In the area around the LKJI airport, suddenly there are trees that should not be there and that were never there before.

So definitely something happened to how autogen trees are generated on a global scale and that should be reverted back. How can this be escalated to the devs, can the reports in the bug section be expected to be spotted?

Hello @jpospis,

We try to read every post written on these forums (including in the Bugs section) and log into our internal bug tracking tool issues raised by the community accordingly.

Thanks,
MSFS Team

I cannot comment on the locations which are so far mentioned in this thread. As I do not have screenshots from those places prior to WU18.

However, excessive autogen trees right in the middle of normal farm land has been around for a very long time.

I remember that I noticed it a lot after WU6. I suspect that with each sat image update, there is a matching AI object detection+placement run … and if the images change in a special ways there is always the risk that the newly generated (matching) tree objects pop up where they do not belong.

However, it would be an interesting “bug” indeed, if an update of one region causes massive changes in another region that was not subject to the update.

Hi all,

We’ve seen a few Bug Reporting Hub threads submitted, which could be linked to this issue. I’ve logged it for internal review!

Thanks

Seems like devs trying to offer a solution are also struggling.

This has been reported for several months without a solution being provided so given that this problem remains unsolvable by the developer teams, I am correcting it with the SDK

problem with that is that most people have no clue how that works

The bad news for me is that I loved flying around this LKMS airstrip, which was weirdly helping me in a difficult life situation I am in right now. The surroundings are now ruined, it looks totally wrong and I do not believe the AI could have detected trees there in any way. Where there are plain fields everywhere there is a forrest now. This must be a global bug of some sort that aggressively places trees where they don’t belong. Is there a way how a user could delete them somehow?

I mean… taxiing on taxiway B to runway 27 in KSAN San Diego looks like i am about to be swallowed into a jungle…

I stood there on the parkinglot…never have seen a lot of threes there. There are some palm trees and stuff but this is overgrown

I noticed that the tree generation is more broken. Trees appear in places where they are not supposed to be and, on the contrary, where they should be, they are not, and the background map is visible.
Clearing the community folder didn’t work.
Turning off the BING map works and the trees disappear in the wrong places. When you turn on BING maps, it appears again.

To me there is no difference Bing maps or not, and upon further research it just seems there’s way more trees everywhere. Something big has gone wrong here.

Hi,

is there a chance please to get some updates on the internal review of this tree problem? Or is it part of the public tracking somewhere? Thanks a lot.

I use and love the Orbx fewer trees addon which drops into the Community folder. Orbx HD Global Trees. It sure does help in my opinion.

First flight after the WU and surprised to see lots of tall trees on the threshold of EGNT 07 which definitely weren’t there before. Nothing else changed apart from the WU.
For interest I’m using Orbx EGNT addon also Bijan summer seasons addon.

Are you talking about SU or WU? There has been no Sim Update per se recently as far as I know…

Yes, sorry,- edited my post.

Hi,

can I please ask again if there is any progress on the internal review of this issue? It is definitely not a few locations having some more trees, it must have been some major alteration in how trees are autogenerated that was introduced wordwide together or around the release of WU18… I believe the devs involved in its introduction may be pretty easily capable of realizing what it was and revert it. Frankly I hope this is not an attempt to make MSFS less attractive to users to motivate them get the new 2024…
