Suffering with poor FPS after today's update? Please submit a ticket!

I do have the same issue, INVERNESS/SCOTLAND airport:

  1. No issue with FPS when “DRAW ON TERRAIN” is OFF"
  2. Stutters/Low FPS when “DRAW ON TERRAIN” is ENABLED/ON"
    something is harcoded fuc…ed…

Additional info - fps counter shows ~17fps when framerate is actually 1-2 fps (i.e. it’s incorrect).

fps “Manipulators” is at 640ms.

It appears as if the game is pausing at 630ms intervals running for a few milliseconds in between the interval then pausing again (the fps counter appears to not notice the pauses and is reporting the framerate for the brief time the sim is actually running).

You can actually see visible gaps in the graph as though the game is not even running during these pauses.

Yes. Same here.

But look at my Task Manager.

And the 5G Wi-fi. Surprising.
S=16.0 kbps and R=0.0 kbps
I wonder what it is sending to the cloud.
While receiving nothing.

Lol - they aint getting any more from me in the marketplace until this is fixed (specifically the issue at specific areas like 76T) . I was a steady 3 to 4 airports between releases but none of that for the time being.

Same for me. Spent a lot of money for hardware (10850K, RTX3080) and directly run into these problems. My first thought was that the new hardware has a defect
Please fix it soon!

I managed to fix the stutter problem.

As soon as stutters apear, try this (you need dev mode on):

[DevMode] → New Project
Click OK
Close Project Editor screen
Answer NO on the dialog box about saving

Started happening to me today, as soon as i get to FL29 it just drops to 1 or 2 frames. Things like this cant be helped but so very annoying especially when you have a days flying planned.

Im using a radeon 5600 xt graphics card. Have been watching it when the frames drop and it must be something to do with how the game is using the GPU because my GPU usage goes from 90-99% usage down to 0-1% usage. hopefully they get a fix for this soon

I’m a returning player, I stopped playing and uninstalled the game last December in anticipation for other games.

I installed it back 2 days ago and I noticed a pretty bad performance degradation in comparison to the late November 2020 experience.

My specs:
I9 9900K @5ghz all cores with HT enabled
64 GB of RAM @3600MHZ
z390 Aorus Master mother board
Samsung Evo 970 512GB SSD
RTX 3090 Asus Tuf OC edition
PSU Corsair AX 1000W
Brand new Windows 10 pro installation (all drivers and bios updated)

I have a path for benchmarking in Manhattam which I measure with MSI Afterburner Benchmark tool

Here are the results from November 2020

                 Average framerate : 38.9 FPS
                 Minimum framerate : 29.7 FPS
                 Maximum framerate : 46.5 FPS
                 1% low framerate : 22.2 FPS
                 0.1% low framerate : 7.4 FPS

Compared to now

                 Average framerate : 33.0 FPS
                 Minimum framerate : 16.9 FPS
                 Maximum framerate : 38.7 FPS
                 1% low framerate : 16.3 FPS
                 0.1% low framerate : 8.0 FPS

Same settings in game, all on Ultra except for Building Details that is on High and Objects level of detail that is on 100.

I even updated to the latest NVidia drivers using DDU to completely clean the old driver and configs to no avail.

You’re not imagining things. The VR update in December was a major sore spot for many that saw degraded performance. The next big step backwards in performance was the UK world update. And the last update (Sim Update 3) introduced massive perfomance losses for a large number of people.

Looking at your numbers, you’re actually one of the lucky ones. You only lost about 8 fps average and maximum, albeit much lower minimums. There are people with the same tier hardware you’re running (some with 10900K even) that are seeing consistent single digit frame rates constantly and can’t even run the sim since the most recent update.

You and I have nearly identical PC’s except for CPU-- I’ve got a 10900K but 64 GB of 3200 RAM.

What resolution were your benchmarks in?

Have you guys seen this?

That’s pretty well known. That’s one of the geographical areas causing issues for everyone.

I also stumbled upon a new one last night on a direct flight from KVRB to KORL. I was flying along at a surprising 25 fps (quite high for me since SU3), when suddenly my frame rate dipped to below 5 fps and stayed there.

I posted about it, and another guy (using a 10900K + RTX3090) flew the same route and encountered the same sub-5 fps at the same spot I did.

There are 3 distinct performance issues currently being experienced. They may be related, but are all separate as far as I can tell:

  1. General stutters and pauses (a large number are seeing that)
  2. Massive, permanent performance degradation since the update (I’m seeing that one)
  3. Massive performance hits in specific geographic areas. Everyone will see that if they go to that area.

3440 x 1440 with render scale set to 120.

Off the wall question. My cpu is usually only 30% utilized and GPU at about 60%. Where else could my bottle neck be? I7, 16GB and 2070 max q

You might want to expand that single graph window and view what the individual theads are doing. It will tell a much different story than the overall CPU usage. What you’ll see is a single thread (main) near 100% a few others with heavy use, and the rest with low to moderate use.

It will look more like this:

Right about there being different issues. My biggest issue is an almost continuous performance drop from what use to be 40-50FPS to what is now around 15-20FPS :frowning:

My performance drops are completely random. Sometimes I open MSFS and it stutters in the menu already. Sometimes I open it and it just works so incredibly smoothly. Other times I turn it on, fly a bit and then it’s stutter fest. When it does sometimes it improves with scenery editor, sometimes it doesn’t and I just have to put it away for the day. It’s driving me nuts! And tomorrow I am getting an X56, fingers crossed MSFS is in a good day so I can test it! haha

huh… very interesting. Average use is a poor stat because one can be 100% and others close to zero and would be an average of 50%. How do we fix this? Or does MSFS need up optimize its usage?

I’ve become just extremely fed up now with this sim, not just because of the issues it has, but the lack of communication from the devs about these issues, especially this performance one. Is it going to be days, weeks, months until it’s fixed? Why can’t they just be more transparent with us.
