Support for Blackbirds "80R"

Bit of background especially for those who are new to simming or joined the game after Asobo launched the ATR

Since almost day one of MSFS 2020 being launched, Milviz now Blackbird simulations announced that they were building a ATR72 for 2020, much to the excitement of this very tight knit passionate community..

Like many of milviz/Blackbirds products well… ones I’ve been passionate about.. the ATR and the 737-200..

It definitely was a journey, like the 732… the ATR went through a couple of moments that a release was just around the corner…, to… "We decided to remodel the plane etc etc..

But it definitely looked like that the plane was all but there…

Then..

A developer came out of nowhere and announced they were also building a atr… All was fine and Blackbird mentioned that they were still committed then…

For that developer to then announce that the atr was going to be backed/supported/bankrolled by the mighty Asobo/Microsoft through an offical tie up with ATR, ironically that was when Blackbird changed the post name to 80R and said it wasn’t some funny joke and were actually quite annoyed.. and thats when they first publicly announced that they were taking the foot off the accelerator to see what the next Asobo announcementfor the ATR… for the handbrake to be finally pulled when Microsoft announced that the ATR will be a system ritch “expert” series and the price will be a nice wee cheap 15-20 bucks pending on whether you were a deluxe or standard purchaser…

Here we are today…

Three or so years into what has to be one of the most enigma of a plane out there… three or four “updates” evenly spaced over the three or four years and yup..

You get the picture…

So Blackbird/Milviz…

If you say hypothetically had your boss build this plane in his free time over the last three years and announced that it was finished and set for release… doesn’t have to be 100% amazing but flip…

Going off the sediment here on the official “polls and discussion of the ATR” you would at the very least.., capture 100% of the currently disgruntled ATR market that would be more than happy to pay 50-60 for a Blackbird 80R that actually worked and had prompt support to fix any bugs that may rear its ugly head during sim updates…

You’d probably make an absolute… well licensed to print money…

Obviously, you guys did your market research in the wake of the price announcement three years ago but surely you would have seen the resentment and the disgust at what we currently have and like I say..

You’d be almost assured to capture each and every one of us poor victims who brought what we brought…

What do you say Blackbird??? Time to dust off the 80R… you said in a post a year back that it was 70% done and were looking for a buyer.. why not complete it.. or even get the boss to do in the spare time and yeah..

Give the community what they are craving the most..

A functional modern/in production turboprop liner that is sorely missing in the game.

While you are at it, why not fly the flag for :canada::canada::canada: pride and aviation know-how and use your 80R experience and build a Dash 8… A proper dash 8 as well…

We, as in the ATR community will be absolutely :100: behind you guys and will absolutely :100: buy… for top dollar.. a Blackbird 80R that actually functions.

I’m sure @A220driv3r will help you out.

Blackbird has been quite clear in that they won’t be restarting this project. Don’t get your hopes up.

Thats a really sad story about the ATR dev demise. I think though that there is enough room in sim to have 2 of the same aircraft from different devs.
E.G. There are many different and the same airbuses from different devs of varying qualities. They still get bought.

Make it Career compatible and it will sell like hot cakes.

I see potential in Blackbird taking 90% of the market/current customers of the Asobo ATR.

At the very least..

Going off from the posters who use this platform and especially going off from the current aosbo atr forum, and the number of disgruntled customers.

If Blackbird had been working quietly on this project without us knowing and released it tomorrow as a fully functional aircraft that you fly in real life and developers who would be proactive at maintaining the software through any software breaking Sim update.

Would you happily pay 40 odd upwards.

I certainly would without a second thought.

It may be dead in the water the moment Asobo released their price..

But each and every year asobos ATR has been out in the state that is has been in… I definitely see Blackbird clawing back most, if not all of the unhappy customers.
