When you click the box on the World Map to select an airport for departure or arrival, the focus stays there. You have to select in the search box unless the airport you want is one of the ones listed in the dropdown. As you usually need to search, please switch the focus automatically to the search box.
It’s a minor detail but an annoying one. Changing this would improve the user experience on almost every flight.
This has my vote (and you should vote for your own wish, too).
However, this is actually a regression. When MSFS 2020 came out, the focus went directly to the airport, just as you described, and then one day, it changed.
A bug report was raised:
And it actually went from feedback-logged to bug-logged, which means that somebody agreed that this was wrong.
Then, it sat for over a year and was eventually closed as “won’t fix.” Someone either decided that this annoyance wasn’t worth fixing, or that somehow, this scenario that we have is better than what was there before.
Interesting, I didn’t get MSFS for a year or so, so I never saw it work properly. I assumed it was just sloppy code. The UI is quite buggy in this respect, but this is the one that “bugs” me most. I hadn’t thought of voting for my own request, so thanks for the tip.

Unfortunately, there are a lot of UI/UX issues in both sims, and the fact that 2024 may have even more UI/UX problems than 2020, and the fact that the bug report for this was closed out tells me it’s unlikely this will ever get fixed.
But don’t let that discourage you from voting for things like this and other things that are important to you. You can’t win unless you play the game.
