Is your LG a TV or a bespoke 4K display? I’m fairly sure a TV has the ability to handle lesser resolutions well, whereas my bespoke 4K display does not.
You might want to see if there are other users in other places (Reddit, for example) that are running a similar display at a lower resolution than 4K with good results.
