Sydney Harbor Bridge missing in Release version

Really?? How can Bing not see it. Its been there a long time!

Bing was having an off day lol.

This is not Bing fault. Should be 3D modeled by devs.

I would image they’ll be an update to address issues like missing bridges in the coming weeks.

It’s a pretty big world. There’s a lot of stuff to model within.

Agree, but Sydney Bridge is almost a world icon like the Opera House. Why model the Opera House and not do the bridge which is right beside it.

It’s a big world. There’s a world update coming next month and at least two more after that on the schedule.

The developers have discussed in interviews that there will be free World Updates released every 2-3 months, which will focus on one particular region of the world at a time. Each region will get the latest Bing aerials injected, as well as new hand crafted airports, new challenges and missions, and new POI’s (hand-modeled points-of-interest, such as key landmarks (like perhaps the Syndey Harbor Bridge)).

Yeah mate, I live in Sydney and go over… uh went over… that bridge every day when we could actually commute to work. I’m with you that it’s definitely one of the most important missing landmarks.

The issue is more photogrammetry and/or Blackshark.ai than Bing, I think. There are similar issues all over the world. Bing really doesn’t have direct height data, it just shows things as seen from above. So usually the road itself gets drawn, but it goes flat across (or sometimes under) the water. Now, depending on the time of day when Bing took the picture, the shadow of a bridge and its towers might be visible, so you’d think a clever autogen AI would know to recognize these and come up with some sort of approximation of the actual bridge. But this doesn’t seem to be the case.

For example, on the Mississippi River between New Orleans and Baton Rouge, there are 3 major bridges all tall enough for ocean-going ships to pass under. One of these, the I-310 bridge, is actually on the W edge of the greater New Orleans metro area (right by KMSY, in fact). The others are out in the middle of nowhere. All 3 are just the road going flat across the water. Same with a 4th bridge between Baton Rouge and the Mississippi state line in my part of the world.

There is also a problem with long, low bridges, basically extended elevated highways. There are LOTS of these in Louisiana over big swamps. IIRC, 4 of the 5 longest bridges in the US are in Louisiana and 3 of those are right near New Orleans. The Lack Pontchartrain Causeway, the Manchac Swamp Bridge (I-55), and the Bonnet Carre Bridge (I-10). The 1st 2 are over 20 miles long, the 3rd is just under 20 (and the I-10 and I-55 bridges are contiguous, so combine over 40). For the most part, the game displays these bridges on or under the water, or missing sections. I’ve been bothering Zendesk about them for a while and they HAVE gotten better, a little at a time, but still a long way to go.

In every version of Microsoft Flight Simulator going back more than 30 years the bridge was there, but no longer. Big fail. Incidentally, have a look at the very strange Victoria Falls area.

Having grown up in Sydney I have to say it was a bit shocking not seeing the proper Harbor Bridge arc shape there, but the opera house was gorgeous. Hopefully the bridge shows up soon  Sydney spent so much money over the years on that bridge, I’m sure all Sydney dwellers would love to see it in proper detail.

What I find interesting about this, is that Sydney Airport was hand-crafted with higher detail, The Opera house also looks like there was some considerable time spent on it. I’m surprised that it seems overlooked that next to a rather major landmark (Opera House) and the effort put into Sydney Airport, that noone flew around Sydney and thought “Oh, We better fix that…”

There seems to be a more widespread issue with bridges, presumably to do with source data. Neither of the Severn crossing bridges which connect England and Wales are there, and nor is the Menai Straits bridge connecting Anglesey to Wales. I think missing Forth Bridges in Scotland have also been reported elsewhere. Hopefully we will get “bridge patches”!

If you’re adding/building an Icon such as the Opera house why would you bother if you’re not going to put effort in adding to the area in close proximity and not just the building. It’s like adding in the Palace of Westminster manually without Big Ben. They make up each other. I mean, they would of seen the state of the default bridge in game compared to the Sydney Harbor bridge and said “oh we should include the bridge”. It’s also missing Sydney CBD and Sydney Tower but I’m sure that’ll be DLC later on.

Nevertheless I’m sure there are buckets of places being made up and worked on as we speak. this is only really day two.

I found a free mod that adds in a Sydney Harbor bridge but the cars still driver across the water underneath. LOL … it will do until a better one comes along.
