TAA vs DLLS Ultra Performance - Image Quality

So, I’m running some comparisons.

With Render Scaling 100 ingame, and 200 in OpenXR, can you spot any real difference in image quality, between TAA and DLSS Ultra Performance?

I have a G2 and all ingame graphic VR options are on Ultra.

I was switching from one to the other while pausing over Manhattan, and quite honestly they look basically the same.

Please, share your thoughts.

Anyway, I’m not crazy. Image is basically the same.

And you can also go higher with the OpenXR scale, up to 250 it remains basically the same, performance wise.

I wish I’d know how to take pics of the G2 lenses to show you! Everything is super crisp, both inside and outside the plane!

(If you have anything similar to a 4090+G2, please try)

While outside picture quality is indeed the same, it’s a quite different picture for any airliner cockpit or in some cases with gauges in something like cessna 172. MCDU is blurry when using DLSS no matter what settings you got, gauges are shaky and sometimes blurry too. But well, I put down my G2 today because I’m quite tired of fighting it to no end as you can’t fly with it when you have monitor in front of you (even turned off it causes tracking glitches, I had to cover it with colorful sheet for head tracking to work at least somewhat. Going back to Q2, will see what picture it will show.

Can’t speak for liners and MFDs, but the MB-339, with all its analogic gauges, it’s perfect. But I get your point.

EDIT: just tried with the A310 and you’re right. Ultra Performance is not usable - but Performance is already quite good, and Balanced/Quality look great.

Yeah I’ve had this occasionally and I have a pretty big Asus 32" widescreen monitor.

It’s an easy fix. Make sure you reset the WMR VR environment every now and again. Also make sure there is enough light in the room, but it doesn’t directly shine into the cameras and for the monitor it’s usually fine for the WMR Portal, stop the mirror and move the MSFS mirror off to one side.

I know this is a pain but you kind of get used to it, and it becomes second nature after a while.

Thanks @Shazam718660 , I have a Intel 13900K/RTX 4090 on order with PCSpecialists. I’ve been impressed already with the performance on my existing Intel 9900K/RTX 2080 Ti system with the HP Reverb G2 so I definately don’t subscribe to folks who can’t get the G2 to run on more powerful hardware, it’s just nonsese.

I’m pretty sure the 4090 will give great performance and if DLSS is a problem then we have alternatives with the Open XR Toolkit or TAA, looking forward to doing some optimisations and seeing whats what, and that’s really the point, the 4090 isn’t a free pass to God like performance, not in MSFS and certainly not in VR so I’ll be happy to see what I can achieve with regards to clarity as fps is already great using motion reprojection.

Can you drop a screenshot of your current settings? I’m also on a i9-9900K + 2080Ti currently and the HP Reverb Professional Edition. As you I’m also already impressed by how it all looks/feels. Choppers are a scary ride but that must be the pilot. Just wondering what you currently use, f.e. I use now OpenXR and have motion reprojection off.

You’re on the right track but DLSS performance is garbage for many gauges in a lot of cockpits. Even the FLIR looks awful on the F-16. Switch DLSS to Quality And you can even lower your OXR to 160 for perfect performance and clarity.

i follow this thread and i haven’t tested the suggested combo (200 oxr + dlss ultra perf), but intuitively and based on experience so far i too highly doubt it’s better than 150/dlss quality

Ingame VR it’s all on the highest settings, but Occlusion, Light Shafts and Reflections (on Low). TLOD 150, OLOD 200.

I’m not saying it’s better. I’m sayings it’s basically the same, but with more FPS

hahah, i like your style  But…no  I’ve tried it and while the clarity really isn’t all that different, the performance is way less stable than at 150 oxr. Of course, you know how msfs is…no two same results for most people

Just been fooling around with the floatplane version of the Beaver around my photogrammetry hometown in Hobart (it’s a great plane for VR). For me without the toolkit with the G2 in VR, my best setting for fps and good image quality was OXR 150/TAA 100, DLSS Quality, AMD sharpening 200, mostly ultra settings, some high or medium, TLOD at 150 and OLOD 200. I had MR off and was getting reasonable smoothness without it. Things looked as sharp as I’ve been able to get, both cockpit and scenery (i.e. as good as with TAA, but with better fps).

RTX 4090
5800x3D
Win10
DX12

Let me correct you: not two same results for the SAME person, on two different days

Thanks but was actually asking @sneaky74 since my current system is the same as his. I just only realized you were the topic starter and already tried yesterday to put a lot of things at high (never tried that). Wasn’t actually that bad considering my system (2080Ti + i9-9900K + HP Reverb Professional Edition) especially when I look at your specs
