Tablet interface?

You can buy switch panels and displays for use with flight simulator to avoid having to mess with the mouse, but it seems to me that a far more sensible approach would be to use a (fairly cheap) Android tablet as an interface. Or maybe more than one. They could be configured to be displays or touch switches.
This seems so obvious that I find it hard to believe that nobody has done this already.
Or is there some snag I have overlooked?

Yup, me too I’d like to put my G3X on an Android tablet and control my flight with one hand

You will need Touch Portal Software (15$) and a SimConnect Plugin that the Github page above links to.

I use this with an iPad aand barely touch the mous anymore

Note: tthere is a Touch Portal Android version too.

This would be more useful if setup was all slightly less impenetrable to a newcomer.
As far as I can see, you need Simconnect running on the FS PC (where does that come from?) as well as the Simconnect plugin, which appears to need to be set up for each aircraft in turn.
Then there is Touch Portal software, which I can only find for free on Play Store, which in turn has its PC software end. Am I looking at the wrong thing? Is the $15 software something else?

SimConnect is actually part of the sim. At least has been in, like, forever.

If I remember correctly, FSX hat some external variants of SC to be installed separately for whatever reason. Maybe some sorts of patched version as FSX got abandoned at some point.

OK, so I already have Simconnect (hopefully) and I’ve now installed Touch Portal, which does talk to the tablet. Seem the $15 refers to the Pro Upgrade? It’s £12.99 in my money.
The tricky seemed to be the bit in between: the Simconnect plugin. I think the main issue is that you need to upgrade to Pro to use a plugin.
However, after paying, I still need to find a .tpp file. There isn’t one in the MSFSTouchPortalPlugin-master zip [later] found it! A separate thing to download and install. Now I can import the plugin, and it says ‘Plugin imported successful.’ but there is no plug in the settings/plugins list, before or after restarting the program.
Am I looking in the wrong place, or looking for the wrong thing?

It turned out to be user error. I was closing Touch Portal down - or so I thought, but it was running in the background. Because the app doesn’t play nicely with desktop scaling (that monitor runs at 250%) it was almost invisible in the tool tray.
Once that was sorted, all became good, with the only remaining issue being the font sizes in the display on the tablet. The ones that were set to “auto” were WAY too big. Perhaps that’s another desktop scaling issue?
Anyway, it works brilliantly now. Thanks very much.

hi i am trying to use touch portal but when i try to add plug in it can not find it any help would be gratefuly appreciated ta

Hi SB472 as one newcomer to another I’m having the same problem as you had with that elusive “.tpp file” can you please direct me to it, before I pull out the rest of my hair?

Hi i am glad it helped , enjoy i do its a great little app :+1:

Also take a look at Air Manager. Its still in beta for MSFS.

Thank you ANCRM114, I’ve watched a couple of Russ Barlow’s YouTube videos and am impressed. But there aren’t any panels (free or payware) available yet for MSFS 2020 - are there?

So far I don’t see any full panels for MSFS. But they have a MSFS default panel and a lot of instruments are available for MSFS.

Thank you ANCRM114.
