Tail Number not displaying on the G36 Bonanza

Using microsoft store version

Not using developer mode.

Brief description of the issue:
Neither the default tail number or any custom tail number will display on the Empennage of the Red/Black default livery for the Bonanza, however it will display correctly on the bottom of the wing. The rest of the paint scheme is unchanged, it’s just missing the tail number. However, the tail number will show up on the other default liveries for the same aircraft. I ensured I have the “Show tail number” box checked. I also tried downloading some additional paint schemes, and they have the exact same issue. I haven’t tried all the aircraft, but the issue seems to just be with the Bonanza. A minor annoyance at first, but turns into a huge issue when trying to take screenshots/videos as it’s really obvious.

Provide Screenshot(s)/video(s) of the issue encountered:

Detail steps to reproduce the issue encountered:
-Select the default G36 Bonanza
-Select the Red/black paint scheme
-Either view the aircraft in “my hangar” or spawn in the aircraft.

Build Version # when you first started experiencing this issue:
I’m not sure exactly when the issue started, I’ve had the issue for about a month or two.

I’m seeing this issue too. Another bug for the long list…

Hey, they made a model regression in a few sim updates back.

We fixed it in the G36 Improvement Mod if you wanted to give it a try?

Nice! Is it SU7 compatible?

Hey, yep

This is what’s included - you can download the latest dev version below

MSFS G36 Project version 0.6.6 Beta 3

This is the improvement project for the MSFS default G36. It all started as a simple edit of some configuration files but it has since grown into a fully-fledged modification that improves all aspects of the default G36 and introduces new features. This was made possible with the help of the community consisting of both enthusiasts and G36 pilots (for a list of contributors, see the end of this readme).

Installation:

1: Download and install the Working Title NXi from the store Marketplace

2: Download and unzip the folder ‘z-bonanza-g36-improvement-project’ in to your MSFS Community folder

Current version: 0.6.6 Beta 3 (Sim Update 7 Compatible)

  • New! The Bonanza G36 Improvement Project is now listed as it’s own aircraft in the menu rather than overwriting the default aircraft (please see livery note)
  • New! Aircraft Persistence, all switches and fuel tanks are saved between flights
  • New! Aircraft Persistence, saves for different liveries - have multiple Bonanzas in your fleet all with different personalities
  • New! Beginnings of the Bonanza Hangar; currently an empty panel window, but basis for next beta release. You will manage your aircraft here, check for spark fouling, oil changes and more.
  • Reworked Engine performance figures: after more than 30hrs of testing and tweaking, the engine performance figures match the POH as close as we can get them and have been verified by real Bonanza pilots. TAS is within 0.22kts on average across the altitude spectrum and fuel flow within 1g/h.
  • Fixed: NXi Engine System Page spacing
  • Fixed: Aircraft getting stuck on the ground. Changed nose height on gear to reflect reference pictures, increased nose gear damping affect, thanks to Synoxys787 for his help and research
  • Fixed: Missing registration and ASI error, thanks to Bert Pieke on Avsim.

Note regarding Liveries: We have split out the files from modifying the default Bonanza to becoming its own aircraft. This is so we can complete further 3d model changes, and work on the hangar module and deeper systems modelling. Liveries will need to be amended to reflect this new aircraft to work. We will create a guide shortly on how to do this.

Features:

Flight dynamics/performance

  • Adjusted climb and cruise performance to match the Bonanza G36 POH charts.
  • Adjusted flap and gear drag
  • Slightly reduced pitch effect due to elevator deflection + propwash
  • Slightly increased nosewheel steering angle
  • Added drag due to cowl flaps. This causes a 3-4 kts cruise speed loss.
  • Decreased yaw sensitivity by lowering deflection rate as a function of speed
  • Increased overall stability: less ‘twitchy’ feeling

Engine & Fuel system

  • Completely overhauled engine parameters: realistic fuel flow, mixture-EGT interaction, engine performance at all pressure altitudes.
  • Simulation of the electric fuel pump
  • More advanced simulation of engine startup:
    • Cold starts: correct use of the fuel pump, throttle and mixture required depending on engine and ambient temperature
    • Under some conditions, idling the engine too soon after start may cause it to quit.
    • Flooded engine: pumping too much fuel to the engine may cause it to ignite slower or not at all.
    • Flooded engine start procedure (mixture low/cut, throttle halfway) may resolve this.
    • A hot engine running idle with little airflow may quit because the fuel evaporates.

Systems

  • Added new working systems and switches:
    • Airco (has a negative effect on engine performance, you will see a few kts lower cruise speed)
    • Airco and ventilator switches are functioning and part of the electrical system
    • Annunciator test
  • Electrical system overhaul:
    • Completely revised electrical buses: all individual systems hooked up to the correct bus
    • Bus tie logic added
    • Correct voltage indications of BUS2 due to reverse current blocking diodes
    • Correct alternator loads
    • Made all indications smooth, rather than instant jumps to a new value
  • Autopilot tweaks
    • Fixed holding the wrong altitude at non-standard atmospheric pressures
    • Max pitch and bank angles adjusted for smoother AP behaviour
    • Added maximum and minimum IAS_ref speeds for FLC mode
    • Adjusted autopilot PIDs
  • Integration with the Working Title NXi mod, with customized ENGINE, LEAN and SYSTEM pages.
  • Completely redone G1000 annunciators: all annunciators of the real G36 were implemented (except for door open warnings)
  • Corrected fuel gauge scale

Textures & effects

Checklists

  • Interactive checklists for every stage of your flight that follow the POH

ATC

  • You are now referenced as Bonanza > Your Callsign in the game ATC

SOUNDS

  • Excessive undercarriage wind noise reduced

AIRCRAFT PERSISTENCE / STATE SAVING / MAKING THE PLANE ‘REAL’ (WORK IN PROGRESS)

  • Your aircraft now remembers how you left it!
  • States are saved for each aircraft livery, so you can multiple ‘living’ Aircraft
  • On first flight load of the new 0.6.6, your aircraft is set cold & dark with 64 gallons of fuel.
  • The aircraft now saves the following tank levels, switches and levers every 5 seconds.
    • Left & Right Fuel Tank Level
    • Battery 1 & 2 switch
    • Alternator 1 & 2 Switch
    • Parking Brake lever
    • Avionics Switch
    • Airconditioning Switch
    • Blower switch
    • Vent Blower switch
    • Aux Fuel Pump Switch
    • Magneto Switch
    • Pitot Heat Switch
    • Prop De-Ice Switch
    • Strobe Switch
    • Beacon Switch
    • Nav Light Switch
    • Flood Light Switch
    • Panel Light Switch
    • Taxi Light Switch
    • Landing Light Switch
    • Fuel Selector Position
    • Defrost switch
    • Throttle Position
    • Propeller Position
    • Mixture Position
    • Cowl Flap Position
    • Flaps Switch
    • Flaps Physical Position
    • Pitch Trim Position
    • Aileron Trim Position
    • Floodlight Brightness
    • Pilot & Passenger Yoke Visibility
  • When you next climb into your aircraft you will find it just as you left it!

NOTE: The aircraft state is only loaded if:

  • You are on the ground in a parking spot or
  • You are on the ground somewhere else and your engine is off.

This allows the aircraft to load in flight or ready at the end of the runway without messing with the aircraft load. It WILL however, still record switch states and tank levels etc.

Is there an easy way to make liveries work? I use this collection, but it’s only showing up for the default G36.

Apologies - just checked the readme: Note regarding Liveries: We have split out the files from modifying the default Bonanza to becoming its own aircraft. This is so we can complete further 3d model changes, and work on the hangar module and deeper systems modelling. Liveries will need to be amended to reflect this new aircraft to work. We will create a guide shortly on how to do this. :+1:

Hey, no probs - in our post a ways up here are the instructions

Getting Liveries to Work

As you all know in Beta 3 we have now made our mod it’s own aircraft rather than modifiying the base version. This was done for a number of reasons, the first it allows us to move into working on parts of the exterior/interior modelling, undertaking deeper systems modelling, and creating our hangar module, and second it helps with fixing some conflicts with other mods that work on the G36 as well.

With this change it does mean that liveries and text changes made to the default G36 won’t work straight out the box and will require some editing to make work with our aircraft.

Instructions on how to make liveries and/or textures to work are shown below:

For Aircraft Liveries

  1. Download the livery as you would normally and install following the authors instructions.
  2. Once installed, locate the aircraft.cfg file in the livery mod folder and open in a text editor.
  3. Locate the line: base_container = "..\Asobo_Bonanza_G36" and rename this to base_container = "..\Bonanza_G36_Improvement_Project" not forgetting to save.
  4. Locate the model.cfg file in the livery model folder and open in a text editor.
  5. Locate the line: exterior=../../Asobo_Bonanza_G36/model/Bonanza_g36.xml and rename this to exterior=../../Bonanza_G36_Improvement_Project/model/Bonanza_g36.xml
  6. Locate the line: interior=../../Asobo_Bonanza_G36/model/Bonanza_g36_interior.xml and rename this to interior=../../Bonanza_G36_Improvement_Project/model/Bonanza_g36_interior.xml
  7. Update the layout.json file to reflect any changes to folder structure etc
  8. Load the sim and check the livery is working

For mods that change things like cockpit textures or panel textures etc the instructions are slightly different.

  1. Download the texture pack as you would normally and install following the authors instructions.
  2. Locate the aircraft folder in Community\your new texture mod folder name \SimObjects\Airplanes\Asobo_Bonanza_G36
  3. Change the Asobo_Bonanza_G36 name to Bonanza_G36_Improvement_Project
  4. Update the layout.json file to reflect the folder structure change.
  5. Load the sim and check the livery is working

Hopefully these instructions help, essentially you need to change the reference to Asobo_Bonanza_G36 to Bonanza_G36_Improvement_Project wherever you find it.

You may also need to check load order if the livery isn’t loading into the sim. Your texture mod will need to load after our mod now - I will remove the z from our folder name for the next release.

And finally, if nothing else works check the layout.json file to ensure it matches the changes you’ve made.

Not to take anything away from the improvement pack mentioned above, but the Turbo mod found at flightsim.to also includes a correct model folder.

Thank you so much, this is a PERFECT workaround. I haven’t been able to fly the mod too much yet, but I can already feel that the airplane behaves closer to the real thing.

Looks like the last global update fixed the missing tail numbers.
White rectangle gone, numbers are correct.
Thank You.

Hi @XTROOPERH15 ,
Are you still having this issue? MumbleJac reported it fixed, and it appears okay to me.
