I wonder if GSX can automatically scan the default ATC chatter on which gate we’re assigned to after landing and contacting ground ATC and automatically prepare the parking spot without us having to manually choose from the list.
you are replying to a post before GSX (for MSFS) was released…
So yeah, ofc course GSX has a Follow-Me as ever before.
ABout that ATC thing, i dont know IF its possible, probably not. But you can always select the gate in GSX that ATC has assigned to you. Thats how it works and how it ever worked before.
Yeah, that’s how I’ve been doing it this whole time. So, when the ATC assigned me the gate, I opened the GSX menu and manually search for the same gate to enable it. It’s just that there’s a lot of flow going on to do this especially while you just vacated the runway, making the “correct” turn to the right taxiway while at the same time using the mouse to go through the GSX list to select the gate while the plane is still taxiing and me steering it at the same time.
I just wished the GSX tool can auto-detect which gate that the sim assigned me. There has to be an API that can read that since the sim isn’t necessarily just use ATC for it. But MSFS also “enables” the parking spot for you with the taxi ribbon assist pointing you to the right spot and the marshall will spawn at the same parking spot etc. So I assume that there’s an API that GSX can read when they’re looking for that gate that MSFS just enabled for the player.
At least if GSX can auto-detect the assigned parking spot, that’s one less thing for me to do on my after-landing checklist procedure while I’m in the middle of everything else. Since I can just continue taxiing and be confident that GSX has enabled the exact same parking spot that MSFS ATC assigned to me without my manual intervention.
You hold at the holding point after leaving the runway anyway. No hurry, just setup everything you need in the plane, get your taxi clearance, select the gate in GSX. you really dont have to do this while taxiing.
but yeah, for offline atc, that could work. altho, sometimes gates do not exist in the scenery or the gsx profile, so theres always a chance of a ■■■■■■ if it would do it automatically. so better do it manually anyway.
But doesn’t GSX use the AFCAD file to generate which parking spot on the list? And with the recent update that came all those months ago, that the AFCAD file will load whichever is currently active? Like if it’s a custom 3rd party airport it will take that custom AFCAD file, otherwise if it’s a default MSFS airport then it will load that AFCAD file instead.
I also would think the default ATC would also use the same AFCAD file to assign the parking spot (if it doesn’t bug out, that is). So I thought that it has some form of possibility that the default ATC is reading from the same AFCAD that GSX can intercept/read that assignment and automatically enable the same parking spot.
Yeah, I can do that. It’s just uncommon for me. For as long as I remember sitting as a passenger in an airline, I never once experience the aircraft to stop at the holding point after vacating the runway. It’s always continue rolling after vacating straight to taxiing.
The only time I had a flight where the aircraft stops after vacating the runway is because they’re told by the ground ATC to hold short because there’s another aircraft on the taxiway that has the right of way before continuing. But everytime I fly on an airline it’s always rolling straight to taxiing after landing and vacating the runway. So, I wanted to just continue doing it the same way.
But eh… no worries. I still love GSX anyway and I can’t live without it.
At this time, the Taxiway ribbons are incredibly cartoonish and glaring with the suspended bright blue arrows. Please consider resizing them down, so they are visible but not to the point of taking away from the in game realism.
See my post above about ‘Subtle Taxi Ribbons.’
Freeware that works as advertised. You get little green arrows. Far superior to big blue.
Yes, we all want Microsobo to make the sim do what we want it to do. But sometimes we just need to accept that 3rd party software is the best solution at the moment.
Id rather hope that Asobo makes the default taxi ribbon smaller and less conspicuous. I used to have the freeware add-on but installing it is a bit tedious and it has to be re-installed everytime there is a sim-update
