Not sure is this is allready known. Been away from flight simulator for a while due to work but been flying a bit more since last week. Since there’s a lot of updates between the last time i tried to adjust the LOD with the user.cfg file and i read some while ago that this tweak wasn’t working anymore. So i decided to look into it again today, and found out that it still works and it also seems to enhance object view distances. I also notice less tearing in the terrain. (this is not visible in the screenshots i took unfortunately.) Looks good to me and performance isn’t to much affected.
Do with this info wathever you want. Maybe it will help someone who is looking for a little more crisp textures and some improved viewing distances.
NOTE: I only changed the terrain LOD. So not the objects LOD.
Here’s some comparison screens between LOD 2 (200 in sim) and LOD 4 (adjusted in the user.cfg)
I have experimented changing the LOD parameters in the configuration file to 300 and 400. The the quality of the details in landscape and buildings was incredible! However my system is somewhat underpowered for these settings as memory filled up and FPS dropped significantly after flying for about 30-40 minutes (Other graphic settings on HIGH.) I had to dial back the LOD settings to remove the FPS impact.
It would help if you would show the same location for comparison. Btw I recognize something changed in tree distance and it depends on LOD. But before the last update, it was far worse. Showing far away trees was a major wishlist topic ! there were even addons to solve it… which worked… didn’t work…

I know about the tree lod topics and discussions. I’ve been following most of them since alpha allready because this topic go’s waay back.
Only i didn’t know that the terrain lod distance also affects the tree spawning distance. I thought this only happend with the objects lod distance. Maybe it was always like this when you altered the user.cff and i never noticed it. But it’s definately nice to know since the tree mods don’t work anymore. Or better said, since asobo cut the tree lod distance in half.
