Curious if you tried no cache also? I was at 8, set it to 32 but had a CTD before I could really test. Then I just went to turn off the cache and tried that but still had stutters but I guess better than the 8gb cache.
THIS! I thought I was the only one that noticed. Itās so bad now.
Of course it is cause i run at 1080p
Yes, also used 1080 before i optimised my sim with my rtx 2080 super. Now i use same settings as i used when i was using 1080. I found it better to set 4k and reduce renderscale. 4k and 1080 is a big difference. Does not affect CPU at all though only gpu.
Maybe Flight Simulator could add an VRAM Usage and let the user select texture settings to use up to 20 GB VRAM for 3090s.
I run 4K Ultra on a GTX 1660 TI and Iām not complaining.
I fly smooth, WY CJ4, at FPS = 20 and enjoy the graphics.
The WT CJ4 is very responsive.
Seems like a lot of the complainers are those with expensive 3080/3090
GPU & 12 Gen CPUs that have spent a lot of money on their PCs and
want the performance, FPS = 60 plus, that they thought they would get.
Well they can run it at 60fps for sure. But not with every setting at maximum. Those with better gpu can have higher res than us. those with better cpu can have higher terrain-lod. Those with both can have both of these higher but maybe not at maximum. Iām not sure because i do not have high end hardware. I have ok hardware i would say.
I understand those that bought new hardware and canāt set everything to maximum that they are dissapointed. I would be too. I have 32gb ram and at release it used around 22gb of that and after su5 the sim only uses around 15gb. That make me have too much than i need for now. I hope they can increase the use of my ram better with that off screen caching setting.
Same with those buying new CPU, The sim doesnāt use enought of the other cores than the main core for now. Same for me there. If it were using more cores i could increase the terrain-lod more and that for me is more important than increasing resolution. We have different needs i think.
Gpu i have no issues with at all. I think the sim uses my gpu to the limits if i want to. Rtx 2080 super. Thats why i think itās better for now to be gpu limited than cpu limited. But i have not tested yet . Will do when i come home
Will not use that though. Want both my gpu and cpu to not run on it limits.
āOnly?ā
Written like someone who has never taken a formal class in aerodynamics, fluid mechanics, or thermodynamics, lol.
Fascinating.
My system is nowhere near what some of you guys are listing here but I have seen very little, if any ādegradationā in graphics. GFX on my system are just about the same as the Sep 2020 release. I am getting a bit better frame rates on the ultra setting. The only real difference I can see is that Iām on a lowly 3840x2160 monitor. (I also have an additional screen running LilNavMap)
So this makes me think that you guys with the expensive, cutting edge stuff are suffering from having a system that is too good. Iād sure hate to be in that position!
You can look at many performance graphs and it shows that 10 series hardware do out perform newer hardware in DirectX 11 because of the better driver support of DirectX 11 on older hardware. Thatās why DirectX 12 is necessary for performance percentage increases in newer hardware. The RTX 20/30 RX 6000 series will be better in performance for longer.
I donāt think they are too good. I think the user thinks they are better than they are. Me included
Flight simulators has always used much CPU. I think that will be the case in the future as well. I think in 10 years there will be cpus to run this smooth in maximum settings. For me it runs smooth with almost all settings on Ultra except res and t-lod. Never had a flight sim that smooth with the hardware available at release.
do you fly with an airliner PMDG or FLYBYWIRE, with real air traffic and bad weather conditions in a big airport?
if answer is yes,ā¦oh please, what rig do you have?![]()
I do, i even use fenix a320 that is even more cpu demanding with the app running in the background. But i need to change my t-lod to optimise it for those. I canāt have my t-lod the same as when i use a simple default ga. For the weather i decrease render-scaling because bad condition is gpu demanding. Ai-traffic i have turned off because they are not worth my cpu power
Maybe when they improve those they will get som cpu power from me.
I often optimise my settings at a big airport as KLAX for example. Then i get it smooth on all airports.
My system:
Intel(R) Core⢠i9-10900 CPU @ 2.80GHz 2.81 GHz RTX 2080 Super 32GB RAM
Not the worst and not the best
I waiting for improved multithreading or a better CPU. Gpu is totally fine as i can run it in 4k with 60-80 render-scaling. 100 in renderscale to me is not worth the cost. Could maybe be useful for weather but i never needed to decrease settings because of weather because iām not running gpu-limited.
Sure, thatās why I asked you, it seemed very strange to me that you had a smooth performance with everything ON.
Air traffic is essential for me: what am I doing in an airport or in an empty sky? It is as important as the clouds. What am I doing in a cloudless sky or on a plane without passengers?
Thatās why there is disappointment: the flight simulator sold me that there would be real air traffic, and Iāve been waiting two years. (after paying)
You canāt buy a car and then see that it doesnāt work and hear the owner say: āit works, but you canāt go very far, or very fastā.
That is deception.
I can have smooth when ai is on. Just need to turn down t-lod to make it optimised for ai-traffic but i donāt like ai-traffic. I rather have my t-lod higher. Those with better cpu than me can have even higher t-lod with ai traffic if they want to.
I agree the sky and airport feels empty for sure. But it brakes immersion when they make spins on taxiway while waiting for other traffic on runway.
Well, how do you optimise it for your hardware? And what hardware are you using? Did you expect to turn every setting to maximum when you bought this sim? I did at first, but many here at the forum learned me how to optimise it for my system. Iām thankful for that, to be able to enjoy the sim i bought in the meantime they either increase graphics or performance.
The thing that has made it less enjoyable for me is the weather gotten worse since su4 with removal of gusts and in su7 with all of the METAR integrations and that i canāt do anything about sadly. In su10 we get gusts back and i looking forward to that.
Live airtraffic works with me ![]()
I think saying it works would be a bit of high praise , it exists.
Hahaha ok thenā¦
Maybe its because I use a payware traffic programm I see more going onā¦
Might very well be, I have a 9900k and 3090 and I now struggle with TLOD 4.00 and keeping 30fps. Lots of ground stutters, and get midflight pauses. I miss the TLOD 7.00+ days. ![]()
Only on a 9700k, similarly used to run very high TLOD with no issues. Now with GA can be around 250, PMDG 200-250 depending on which big third party airport it is, with the Fenix 150. This all with third party airports as thatās all I ever use.
Keeps me 35+ FPS in the immediate airport vicinity at all times. Cruise much higher obviously.
Well until the manipulators go up and up and up and my FPS starts to go down the drain since the update to SU9. Itās a mess.
