Various selectable LODs, not just bound to one or two settings like TLOD and OLOD.
For those in the know, we also could manually increase values in the config files.

if you could chose density/complexity seperate from draw distance you could as an example have trees far into the horizon but keep them low complexity and low density to not break my computer.
Where as now in msfs you have a slider that basically says; short range and low quality or long range and high quality.
I have a funny feeling your prayers will be answered when 2024 is released. This sim will get the same scenery and settings because it would be stupid not to.

I remember the devs explained this in a q&a like this. Those needs to be together because the t-lod decides how far from the aircraft the sim calculates where to place objects on the ground. Trees for example needs to be placed on spots on those ground textures where they should be and that requires calculations done. And that requires CPU power. If the t-lod slider is set really low it means the sim doesn’t know where to place objects on those textures far away. But it also requires less calculations done at the same time and that means less cpu usage.
The t-lod do more things in the background than we think it does . A detailed explanation how it really works should be in the sim while we point at that setting in the settings menu.
That looks much more granular than a simple slider or two. ![]()
I agree it’s not like the random placement of previous sims however I feel there’s still the possibiity to extend e.g. the furthest treeline by a certain distance or until it hits a dramatic change in elevation by which time normal ground textures can take over. Admittedly that’s not perfect and not so easy for cityscapes and undulating terrain.
I think the best would be if they could make the sim utilize more cpu cores. That would make it possible to increase both performance and graphics at the same time without any kind of workarounds ![]()
In my tests, graphics Settings besides resolution has little affect on the gpu. When we get stutters often it’s becasue of the CPU in this sim. Some locations i’ve seen has much impact of GPU like Arlanda airport and central park (PG trees).
I doubt that’s going to happen for the 2020 version because they are tied to their minimum low end specs of 4 cores 8 threads which once windows is accounted for is basically what we have.
And i think the core code of this sim is same as FSX. It’s old unoptimized code in use.
Far from it … it’s a huge undertaking with many data sources that all have to be synchronised … there’s always going to be bottlenecks such as a individual’s internet performance or their hamstrung specs.
Elements of FSX have been directly translated but the code is more modern.
Yes, you may be right. Only speculations from my side.
If they not increase utilization of more cores they need to find workarounds for that though. And i dislike that approach. Because those workarounds we can do by decreasing graphics settings by our self.
a good example is the GRASS in msfs, on ULTRA it only draws grass in a small circle around you. I would much rather have less dense grass that reaches further. (and even better would be to fade out at 1000ft agl or something).
Try T-LOD400, the grass looks fine
4k ultra (t-lod 200)
400TLOD with massive stutters for some extra grass ![]()
Grass is easy on the graphics, I know that from my old GT1030, it’s one of few settings that I could run at high
grass itself yeah, but TLOD is linked to a pletora of things that should not be linked.
Asobo shooting themselves in the foot with this.
well then I dont get it, on my two pictures you can see that the grass is drawn in a 50m ish radius around the aircraft, which makes it look weird when in motion and it magically appears in a circle around me moving forward.
