Terrible performance with i9-10900k & RTX 4080

I’m thinking of sending it back and changing the processor to an i9-13900KF but GPU to an ASUS TUF 3090. Do you think this would perform much better?

Single core processor performance is very important. The 13900 has a high clock speed. Re video card, I run a 3080TI, and visually its nice. Im still main thread limited, so it cannot process anything more. Entirely depends on what youre running with regard to monitor. 4090/4080 is good for 4k and it has good DLSS. Anything less and a 3090 should suffice.

I wouldn’t drop to a 3090 if I were you!
I have upgraded from a 3090 to a 4090 and I get a huge increase in fps with DLSS frame gen, the 3090 can’t do frame gen yet?
The 4080 it not a powerful but does yse frame gen at least :+1:

@FlyHighDude7 @DeniableSquash6

Would you recommend going for the i7-13700KF and the 4080 then? I cannot afford the i9-13900KF and 4080.

Not sure what your problem is with the 4080 is, I have 5900x 32Gb of 3600 ddr4, 2x M.2 drives and the rtx 4090, running everything at ultra and 300 lod distances on a 5120x1440 monitor with DLSS and FG on I get upto 120fps most places and 90fps in busy airports?

Not sure how powerful your 10900k is, as not done Intel for a few years?
Sorry can’t be if more help :slightly_frowning_face:

Oh… Would you recommend the 5900x?

Even at addon airports? While I now get fairly good performance on my 5800x3d and 4090 I still get brought to my knees at airports that aren’t particularly FPS friendly such as the Inibuilds LAX with the PMDG. Outside of the usual suspects like LAX, JFK, etc. performance is good. But I drop to the 40s with FG on at these heavy airports and that will induce some stutters. I also use 300 LOD and lowering it seems to help but the textures filling in so close is really annoying.

In the end I sent back my PC and have just ordered a new one with the 5800X3D and 4080, I don’t plan to use 4k (1440P is fine and so is 200 TLOD). My monitor is 1440p anyways. Hopefully the performance will be much better!

Hey there just wondering if you solved your problem, I’m running i9 10900k with 4080 and 3600 Corsair ram. I literally had the same issue, noticed my motherboard was forcing my ram to run at 2133mhz. I set my ram speed manually and literally doubled my CPU score on 3D Mark’s bench mark. I can almost gaurentee you are having the same problem.

The OP’s non clockable mobo can’t run his ram beyond 2933MHz.

Here in Europe the cheapest new H510M mobo (supports 3200MHz) I can see is €63 which IMO just wouldn’t be worth it but I guess ebay might be worth a look.

How do you do this? I have a 11900k.

I have always been interested in this but never understood how

Don’t be shocked if it’s not!

I would be

Best of luck with it!

Nice build indeed

I’d be swapping out the motherboard then, 100 percent as I literally doubled my CPU score which helped my set up run all my games max setting in excess of 165fps (my monitor is 2K 165hz) I run ultra max setting in most of my games. I know flight sim is on a different level for cpu usage but I can guarantee it will increase his FPS and this is the cause of the issue.

I’ve returned my 3080ti and installed the 4070ti and I’m experiencing fps loss (about 5 / 10 fps loss) with frame generation on.
If I disable HAGS and come back to frame generation off I gain fps.
My system:
5900x
33 GB RAM 3600
4070ti
Ssd

If people are having FPS issues with a 3080ti and 40’s Card. Will MSFS will run like FSX and we will have take as it is ?
Why hasn’t MSFS put out a System configuration that will work as intended.

Here are the Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 System Requirements (Minimum)

  1. CPU: Intel Core i5-4460 or AMD Ryzen 3 1200 or better.
  2. RAM: 8 GB.
  3. OS: Windows 10 64-bit.
  4. VIDEO CARD: Radeon RX 570 or GeForce GTX 770 or better.
  5. PIXEL SHADER: 5.0.
  6. VERTEX SHADER: 5.0.
  7. FREE DISK SPACE: 150 GB.
  8. DEDICATED VIDEO RAM: 2048 MB.

Or update this one.

Now that has confused me even more, thought HAGS was needed for Frame Gen to work?

Solved!
Fs2020 fps counter does not count the fps gererated, you have to check with a third party fps counter. In my case frame generator doubled my fps.
HAGS must be on for frame generator to work

I had terrible performance when I switched from a 3080 to a 4080 it was because flight simulator was rendering the map in a seperate window behind the main window turned that off and nearly doubled my frame rate grrr
