The 152 appreciation thread

For all of the problems this game has, one of the things that it does very right is the Cessna 152. I realized last night that I have become extremely lazy and far too dependent on autopilot and GPS over the last several years of simming. This realization hit me like a ton of bricks when I was cursing the VL-3, A5, DV20, and DA40 for being such sexy planes with no autopilot.

Well, I came to the conclusion that I wanted to change that this morning, so I decided to eschew all modern technology and take the Cessa 152 out for a spin to brush up on my VOR nav and trimming skills. I took off from my local regional (52F) and flew around the DFW metroplex with a legal pad on my desk with various frequencies written down for me to make a circuit and end up back where I started. I’m sure it helps that it is a beautiful morning for flying, but I haven’t felt this involved with simming in years… it’s really bringing me back to the wonder of first learning everything back when I was a kid/teen.

I would highly recommend this experience to everyone who wants to get the most out of this sim and see what it actually does well (very well, at that).

maybe try one of the Bush Trips and fly totally the old-fashioned way.

It won’t be in the C152, but there’s no purple line following mode.

The bush trip wouldn’t register me hitting the point of interest. I just flew over it a bunch of times and gave up.

The 152 and the Savage Cub are two of my favorite planes to fly in this game.

It’s not supposed to register anything is it? The only thing it registers is landing at the destination airport. Other than that you are on your own.

For the one I’ve been doing, at least, you need to land at the destination airport, for each leg, and come to a complete stop.

It saves your progress at that point, so that you can start at that airport when you log back in again

Meanwhile I even came to appreciate that the 152 has no DME. Trying to keep your heading steady for half an hour isn’t that easy over a misty rain forest. When you have to calculate your arrival time by using known leg distance, speed flown time, it feels pretty rearding when you actually accomplish to find that tiny landing strip in the rain after 50 NM of flying…

When I clicked the button to get me back on track, on the VFR map, it kept taking me back to the first point of interest.

Love the 152 too.
Hope in different tires and well… like the mod from prostrike studio.

Anyone here knows how to reduce the red dome light?

C152 has been my favourite in all Sims for years! True flying! Great to see others enjoying it too

Oh I see, well back on track is kind of failing the VFR anyway - never used it myself

Then it sounds like you’ll need to submit a zendesk ticket.

Agree…while IFR flying is fun the C152 is more fun!

im not hardcore simmer, I been playing prop plane only so far, I don’t get the appeal of big planes.
will we ever see old WW2 props? like spitfire mustang etc? I would love to fly those in this sim…

FSX had a P-51 that was challenging to fly without roasting the engine, but it’s been awhile since we had any older planes like that. I know that one of the previous versions had a Sopwith Camel that was fun to fly.

Squirrel has an amazing video doing this in the base Cessna 172 (without the G1000) and it’s a joy to watch!

I love the 152.

yes that’s all I have really been using so far, great job on the little C152. Just waiting for some liveries to come out now.

Yes, I love this plane but use the 172 ( not the G1000) because I can have 3 passengers
