I’m flying on a PS controller (don’t ask) and rudder control is set to the trigger buttons for analog control. The update changed this to digital, in that a quick press of a trigger would move the rudder a few degrees and leave it there rather than re-centre. Holding the trigger, as you would correcting for torque on take off, would move the rudder to max deflection and, again, no re-centre when letting go of the input. The first attempted take off after the update was…interesting.
To fix: Go to controls, unmap rudder left and right (yaw) and map instead to rudder left and right just above. All better, back to an analog rudder.
Why does every update break something and can I have non-pixelated clouds back please?
Which rudder control did you set? I tried it using that but no good. It’s like the caster is gone on my taildragger but the same thing happens when airborne.
Yes, that’s the correct new default mappings. Your old mappings probably didn’t work right before; at least they never worked right for the Xbox One controller because the binding didn’t understand that they were analog triggers and would flap between neutral and full positions, making it very difficult to steer correctly in the air or on the ground (especially during takeoff without takeoff rudder assist).
The new settings are far superior, fixing a serious usability bug that we’ve all been complaining about since the game came out.
I would have preferred if the old settings were automatically changed over to the new settings, or a helper dialog at update time asked if you wanted to.
But I’m happy they work correctly now, for the first time!
They’ve been working fine since day 1. I don’t remember ever mapping them to yaw left and right, I think the update changed it. Just like it did last update when the cursor keys became mysteriously unmapped from the cockpit camera controls.
I’d honestly be surprised if it’s true that analog rudder on PS4 controller worked while Xbox One controller did not, but I’ll admit it’s possible as I only ever heard people talking about Xbox One controllers being used with this game. Good luck with your configuration, and happy gaming!
Oh, I guess I believe you! I’m just extremely surprised. Like really, like if you depressed it halfway and looked at the rudder on your external camera it was at a stable position, not flapping around?
Ya know, I never looked, I’m always in the cockpit. However, when taxiing or when correcting for torque effect on take off, the analogyness (sic) of the PS4 controller worked perfectly. Steering when taxiing could be gradual and perfectly controlled, take off roll could be held on the centreline without the use of auto assisted rudder. And it still can with the new settings.
That first flight I took after the update was in very wet conditions and I honestly thought the plane was just skidding around when taxiing. The actual take off roll involved a lot of swearing though.
Interesting! With mine, taxiing sorta worked but takeoff was impossible without takeoff rudder assist on (it is on by default, however, unless you turn it off).
Well I’m sorry the change in settings for us Xbox users broke stuff for you as well, but I’m glad it works out once reconfigured.
