First of all: this is not a rant. It´s just to share something that surely EVERYBODY (especially if you, like me, started pre-P3D/MSFS) has experienced and that by now is a somewhat charming, like almost companion, to every fellow simmer. So this is not another “Asobo can´t get things right” thread because until now NOBODY really could. Sims are a very complex kind of software. with that being said:
I will only say one phrase and i´m sure you know what i want to convey: I´m Austrian, therefore german speaking and i use a little “ginglish” phrase to describe said thing:
“why is there always something”
I just wanted to do a nice relaxing flight from NZWN to NZQN and it started with the sim crashing when i refused the sim-imposed windowed mode (i just had an update) by bringing it back to fullscreen (too early?). I´m not someone who is plagued by those dreaded CTDs so not much of a problem for me.
Restarted it, set up my flightplan via STKP, briefed myself, got into the 738, powered it up by the book, remembered that i wanted to put IRS align time to realistic (at least 30% of the time something´s not the way i want it I AM the one responsible for it), like five flights ago, looked down on the cdu and paused my trackIR to fiddle with my hardware CDU from cockpit Master only to find out that it had hung itself up.
So i restarted the bridge software and reconnected the CDU for the better part of like 10 minutes until i gave up and decided to use the good ol´ mouse interaction.
So i unpaused trackIR, or i tried to, but sadly it had also decided to stop working.
To hell with those 30 minutes, i´ve got plenty of time, otherwise i would not have “elected” flight simming my prime hobby.
Anyways, now i´m feeling better and able to start all over again…until there is again something.
Ah yes, always something..how true that is. Today for me it’s the fact that a windows 11 beta update has rendered my second monitor unusable. It was working before the mandatory restart of the pc after every update, then suddenly, no display. I’ve tried most of the day to troubleshoot, but I’ll have to wait now until I get a different cable to try.
Before today it was the sim hanging just after hitting the fly now button until I found the cause.
Any ooh. It’s part of the hobby, you’ve got to see the lighter side of it otherwise you’d be tearing your hair out. Lol.
That is the reason why I use MSFS and also “the other one”. It is more expensive than using only one simulator but it gives peace of mind. When I get anoyed by one simulator I simple start the other one. At the end of the day, its just a hobby, it is not worth taking it badly and I have passengers that need to reach their destination.
For me it’s either those random main gear failures (while taxing) or the Saitek instrument panels refusing to boot up properly (seriouly have to power cyle them a couple times)
One of the reasons why I personally don’t add any outside tools or software apart from a yoke. There’s too high a risk of them mucking up or causing interference, regardless of the added immersion. Mouse and the computer itself has worked well enough for the 20 years I’ve done it. I can do without trackIR.
Well, i makes Sense that too many third Parties May of course affect the Base Sim. But i already had “Always something” Back in the day when those things didnt exist…
In real life, pilots strive for the perfect flight. I mean little things like holding course and altitude perfectly, having frequencies tuned before needed, and the big one, that squeeker of a landing right on the aiming point.
In simulator life, all of the above apply PLUS having the computer and software behave from start to shutdown!
Just updated the latest and now it freezes after hitting Fly Now button. It…just…..freezes……..period! Stepping away….again until fixed. I love and hate this sim……I really do.
Without question, MSFS is the most frustrating game I’ve ever played, and I can’t think of anything that comes close.
Of course, the parts of the sim that work well make it one of the best games available, and that adds to the frustration, because one of the best games has so many flaws, and whenever an issue is fixed, it brings on new issues and downgrades.
Since the 40th anniversary update i’ve been having a freezing as well, for about 10 seconds, then the sim just behaves again… i’d blaim it on the multitude of mods i’m running, so not complaining it’s not killing my computer outright from the getgo. Hope you find the issue and can have it resolved quickly.
For me as of now I had to check for any duplicated airports in add-on linker and get rid of those, and also get rid of bijan’s seasons mod and the 3d models from that add-on.
