That’s a good point that they are applying CFD not just to the flight model calculations, but also will be applying it to the weather, too to make it more “realistic”. That’s why I’ve been super excited about this latest simulation iteration. Based on reading the SDK and their discussion about the flight model when they first released it to the public, I could see where they were going. Good thing, because I was never a fan of Xplane, as it always felt cold too me, lifeless (and I’m talking the flight model here, not the horrendous scenery). Having my private pilot license, I liked FSX better than v11, and that says something.
It’ll be interesting to watch how MSFS changes as they add more and more to it and learn better how to implement all these ideas.
