The Big Picture - Thank you Asobo

I have just entered the world of MSFS VR and, after spending some time to configure things to minimize the VR scenery stutter issue, found myself flying in my Cessna, peeking down out of the side window watching houses pass by below the undercarriage, leaning forward to inspect the detail of the gauges, got hit by the sun as I peeked out the other side window and finally landed smoother than I ever did in 2D.

That’s when I realized my journey from playing FS 4.0 (I think) back in the day to my amazement when satellite textures first appeared in MSFS and then the way my jaw dropped when I first saw the MSFS 2020 visuals. And now, finally, that dream from all the way back with FS 4.0 finally realized with MSFS VR. I am truly confounded and, as many other VR flyers have said, once you have tasted VR you can never go back to 2D VFR flying.

The immersion and suspension of disbelief in VR is beyond what I expected. I know this sim is full of bugs, unfinished features and VFR folks are generally happier with it than the IFR crowd but, right now, I’m simply saying “Thank you, Asobo!” from the bottom of my heart.

This +1000! The VR experience is the closest to flying I’ve experienced when not in a real cockpit! It is a slippery slope (as I start to eye motion platforms…)

Once you get over the 3D effect, you’ll be wanting, no doubt, to check out the multiple topics in the VR section to learn of the realities experienced by many users of MSFS.

Hello @PacyFire,

Glad to hear you’re enjoying the VR experience! Flying in VR really does increase the sense of immersiveness, doesn’t it? Other than the Cessna, have you tried any other planes in VR? I imagine I would personally get a huge feeling of vertigo if I tried flying an ultralight like the Top Rudder Solo 103 in VR!

The feeling of vertigo is induced primarily by the incorrect implementation of the VR “camera”, as mentioned multiple times and to which we have been waiting to be fixed since day one of VR.

That’s not what I was talking about (the vertigo I meant was the literal fear of heights, like when my knees go weak when standing next to a tall ledge), but thanks for your contribution to this discussion.

Aside the multiple issues and regressions in some Sim Updates (of which have been beaten to death by users…) the VR experience is very good, but it could be excellent if Asobo actually took notice and fixed what they broke and improved certain areas. Especially now with the Helicopters - which lend themselves to VR in a big way, it must be time to show VR some TLC next year.

Overall though yeah, most planes and choppers are a joy to fly in VR, the immersion is incredible and I’ve spent many happy hundreds of hours enjoying the experience.

I think XBOX users that want to fly ‘seriously’ have certainly seemed to have the wrong end of the game.

By ‘seriously’ I mean an inadequate implementation of the more complex systems detracts from the enjoyment, thus leading to disillusionment.

I think you are 100% not understanding the point I’m making.

To start again, I agree with your original point and all my comments in response to yours are in support thereof.

I agree completely with your post - and a pity that your positive thread got hijacked

then Sorry in that missunderstood…
… just a bit confusing and for me not understandable management by CM’s to flag my first posts with my oppionion about this year!

Edit: But i have to say the word ‘seriously’ isn’t well choosen in fact that why shouldnt be a ‘seriuos’ simmer play on XBOX…

Very glad you are having a good time in the sim with VR! Excited to see what the future holds and how VR and other areas of the sim will develop.

Closing this thread as it is turning off topic from your conversation about VR, but the original post is noted.

Thanks all.
