This Saturday ( 9 September- 1900 UTC US East server) we’ll be flying along the northern Somalian coast. We’ll be departing out HCMU near Erigavo (technically Somaliland) to the northeast, following the wadis out to the cliff edge of the Cal Madow. We’ll then begin to ride the edge of the cliff to the east, until we reach our first off-field landing near WP7. Upon departing from the first off-field we’ll cruise a bit more along the cliff edge before dropping down, deep into a seasonal stream bed and out to the coast. We’ll then turn east again, following the coast until we reach our second stop, HCLA near Laasqoray. It’s then back into the mountains as we follow valley after valley up to Bab Caleed and Geshalaal, crossing between these two peaks as we approach our second off-field (and third landing) at the top of the cliff near WP27. A short dip into the valleys along the cliff tops near WP28, before popping back over the cliff edge near the village of Duriduri. Continuing along the edge as we keep trekking east, we’ll eventually meet the Yalho valley, the demarcation point between the Cal Madow and Cal Miskaad (across the valley to the east). We will not be trekking into the Cal Miskaad as there is an Al-Shabaab base within the mountains which they also use as a staging area for their various misdeeds within the region. Instead we will follow the Yalho valley to the historic coastal city of Bosaso, ending our flight at HCMF.
2(+2 off-field) landings in total, ~160NM total length.
Starting at HCMU Recommended cruise speed: 100 knots.
