Seems like chatgpt includes bush strips in bush trips….
that is exactly what they are doing, sonce 2019, and yet simmers cannot even grasp this simple concept
we are getting fixes continuessly and to he honest, if you go back to 2019-2021 , we would see exactly the same topics we see today in 2025, and now simmers cling to 2020 like a swiss banker to a gold bar
just like 2020, 2024 will mature. then in 5 years we will have the same discussions around the next sim
tbis goes round and round all the time….
Maybe, but I don’t have confidence in the team anymore when they are doing things like dumbing down 2020. It’s now worse than SU1. We’ve gone back 5 years in one update.
I may be behind on this but my biggest lack of confidence in them is the fact it’s a forced constant connection. Myself and my friends have ALL experienced why this idea is absolutely HORRID. I rarely get outages but it’s so sad that when I do I cannot fly. Which has pushed me into using x-plane. I LITERALLY bought x-plane for this reason. Outside of a simple login to verify ownership x-plane does NOT require constant connection which means if my Wi-Fi goes out I can still fly and chat with friends (phone hotspot. But will not use the hotspot for msfs because it consumes and ungodly amount of data)
X-Plane is good for the reasons you stated, but it feels visually dated to me, which makes it hard to play. When MSFS 2024 is running well, plus the visuals, especially after the latest California update, it looks incredibly real… and once you experience that, it’s hard to go back to anything else. There’s a lot of work to do, but it’s honestly been fun watching the sim get better with each update.
This is incredible…
It’s a shame that FS is so disparaged. It costs less than €200 and you literally get the whole world with aircraft from all sectors. And there are regular updates that either fix bugs, improve performance and make the world even more beautiful and accurate
And this software is for all users, from professional pilots to beginners who know little about aviation and just want to have fun. It’s to be expected that many wishes will inevitably fall by the wayside.
Just recently, I heard from a real Airbus pilot that some tiny detail in the display on the PFD doesn’t exactly match the real-life model. Please, how bad can such realism be?
The FS2020 and FS2024 are both excellent!
That bothers me very little because most of that can be achieved with a few things like otho and such. It just takes a little knowing what you’re doing.
Well… really?
Are we really comparing ortho quality with the visuals from MSFS?
Maybe from 30.000 feet?
Ortho is still horrible. Just look at the roads unnaturally bending over hills like Christmas ribbons. It’s so bad when you are actually looking at it. Laughable, really. And it costs quite a lot.
But when your goal is, toga, autopilot, and land, then the other sim absolutely has enough fidelity.
I get the point you are making, and addons can definitely help, but I don’t think that’s the same thing. When a sim needs heavy ortho, tweaks, and constant setup just to try and look modern, and it’s still not even in the ballpark, that says something about the base engine. Again, what impresses me with MSFS 2024, especially after the California update, is how real it looks out of the box without having to constantly reapply lipstick… You’re flying in a believable world without spending hours tuning it.
Can the same not be said for msfs. Most of its beauty is not on the system. It’s via the cloud. So instead of the user tweaking the experience it’s just being head up over servers.
My end goal is a sim I can use offline should I need or want to. X-plane does that which msfs can’t do and even msfs 2020 only looked so good because of data streaming. Once that was off msfs looks led just clas rough if not worse. Unless you had custom scenery of your own.
Hi folks. Posts are starting to go off-topic. There is nothing wrong with comparing xplane with MSFS, but please do so in topics created for that. This topic is about “The future of MSFS 2024”. Let’s keep it about that.
Thank you.
Well to go somehow back to the topic.
I would not be surprised if in two years they will release MSFS2028. This will be necessary since the old codebase is no longer suitable for the new technology and we will begin the cycle from the start.
Best case MSFS 2024 will be supported until 2034.
In the meantime they will fix some issues and create some new.
The “Future” of MSFS2024 is whatever it takes to convince someone who does not already have it, to decide to make the decision to purchase it,.
BTW That is also the future of MSFS 2028, although by then, it may well be that the “Purchase it” part is replaced by “Subscribe to it”

not sure about the framing… sure new users matter, but that’s only part of the future. Long-term future depends just as much on retaining existing users, keeping third-party developers strong, and continuing to deepen the platform. Growth brings people in, but depth builds stability.
This. Isn’t this the whole point of the cloud? You don’t buy the computer; you rent time on the cloud. And the recent outages have made it very clear, we haven’t “bought” anything. We are just paying for access. Even without the cloud, if Steam goes down you can’t play. If the DCS or Xplane login servers go down you can’t play. This is fundamental to the industry now.
I am worried about the future of the sim more than ever this year. The SDK is evolving, and the old FSX api’s are being phased out. Development has become much more complex in 2024. I am not a developer (no NDA required), but I can see what’s going on. It’s not getting easier to make high quality addons, and I am wondering about the feasibility of spending a year making something only to sell a few copies. What’s the pipeline look like? Another Boeing? Another Airbus? Some old FSX warbird conversions?
How many of us have failures enabled? I don’t use them, yet a lot of work was put in to create the failure system.
The big announcement last year was that Boeing is using the sim for training. Well, not for free, that’s for sure. What does that mean for the sim and the average simmer? Are they just helping to keep the lights on? Or will development steer towards the high paying customers?
Stranger things and stranger times.
Can one play 2020 offline on steam? This will have to be my go to if they make 2024 a monthly pay sim. I have already forked out enough to rent the planes I buy from steam without having to fork out more on a monthly basis.
That’s an interesting question. I don’t know of any Steam subscription services.
Another point, a lot of time and energy was spent developing the elaborate control profile system. How many of us have separate control profiles for each plane? Not me. I have one profile for all my planes and helicopters. I never had issues with my control profiles in 2020, but I still have to fix my profiles in 2024 every time I have to re-install. We’re stuck with that system now. Instead of keeping it simple and focusing on improved graphics and performance, they are moving towards more and more complexity.
I meant if 24 becomes a subscription service. Sadly, the Gb of data for 24 demands it is streamed. That’s why I’m wondering whether 20 can be offline or online with Steam without a subscription
requirement from MS. I suspect this might all become apparent in 2028 or so.
Agree with the profiles. I know many folk like to have complex 3rd party stuff to run their profiles and bindings. That’s firstly too much hassle for me to learn how to do all that and secondly when the servers go down these seem to get broken. I like actually activating the switches and knobs in the cockpit, it makes me feel like I am part of my virtual plane.
I’m going to go with the old adage that says, if we aren’t getting the right answers, then we probably aren’t asking the right questions:
-
What happens if a competing flight simulator comes out?
-
Given more choice, how much will customer satisfaction and sense of brand loyalty affect whether you jump ship?
-
Do you want an AI enabled future where video games are a service with a subscription, or do you want a consumer lead future where competition drives innovation and leads to increased consumer choice?
-
If AI is the future, then how can a technology that effectively destroys the ability to monopolise information and services, be used to create one?
Is the answer 42? ![]()
