Hi, I just want to say that the opt-in open beta is working great! It’s not perfect, there are still some bugs that slip through, but overall, I would say since the opt-in open beta started, most of the Sim Updates have been much smoother. The main thing that I recommend for the opt-in open beta is that enough time be given for the opt-in open beta. I think SU 10 had quite a lot of time to test the opt-in open beta, so at least for SU 10, the length of the open beta was not the issue. Definitely, returning to the private beta would be a huge step back, and would lead to a lot of poor Sim Updates like we had last year. By far, the best Sim Updates we have had have been all the Sim Updates since the opt-in open beta started.
Of course, the opt-in open beta can be improved further. I personally like the voting system where urgent bugs in the open beta can be upvoted to the top, so that Asobo knows which bugs are the most pressing and need to be fixed. But perhaps the voting system can also show the most urgent bugs since the last beta update was pushed out, so there is a way to see which bugs are new and pertinent to the latest update - a better way to classify the bugs.
So for me, I really like the voting system in the open beta to vote the most pressing bugs to the top. All that is required would probably be a better way to classify bugs so we know which bugs relate to which beta update, which bugs are new because of an update versus which bugs are older and relate to an older beta update. A nice color coding system would work really well here, and a filter to only show bugs related to a specific beta update would also be nice.
Finally, since I said there was enough time for the open beta of SU 10, this brings SU 11 into focus. For SU 10, I think over 2 months was spent in open beta for it. But as you know, SU 11 is the 40th anniversary release of MSFS. SU 11, just like SU 5 (X-Box release) and SU 7 (GOTY release) is a special Sim Update. I am not sure if Microsoft is spending money promoting the release of SU 11, but if Microsoft is spending money to promote the release of SU 11 because it’s the 40th anniversary edition, I don’t think SU 11 can be pushed back like SU 10. If the SU 11 release date is firm and it’s fixed, I really hope that beta testing for SU 11 can start ASAP. There are so many things to be tested in SU 11, including the new 20 KM CFD around the plane, thermals, glider aerodynamics, helicopter aerodynamics, and of course, several planes including the iniBuilds A310 which is a study level plane. If the iniBuilds A310 is coming out for SU 11, I would think because it’s a study level plane, it would require a lot of beta testing itself. Even if none of the new planes will be available in the open beta for testing, I think SU 11 itself requires ample open beta testing time. So for that reason, I really hope the open beta for SU 11 can start ASAP (there is under 1.5 months for SU 11 open beta testing, even if it started today).
Thank you MSFS team for the last several Sim Updates and I hope you keep up the good work!
