Really enjoying the time I get to fly in sims. Short flights over scenic and familiar places is a little comforting. But I have some real health issues that limit how long I may fly. I have to balance how long my flights are to match how long I can sit at the controls. A bit of a hassle for an hour or so of some fun or pleasure. Today I haven’t been able to fly as I’m not sure how long I can sit there today. It kind of puts some perspective on things and how the issues in this sim/game really don’t mean much.
I’m glad it is working for you. It is a great escape.
Your situation really puts all the whiners in this forum into perspective. Good luck to you.
How about laying down with a gaming laptop and a joystick?
I don’t have spine issues but I really like that position
Maybe there’s also more freedom to be had once VR is supported.
Actually laying down can be very bad. Trying to recline in a chair is impossible. Trying to do either and holding my arms out causes loss of motor control. Yeah, It can get really frustrating. Hopefully the next round of surgeries will bring some stability and more seat time to fly.
Is standing any better? We have people at work with back injuries and they have these tall ‘standing’ desks they stand at rather than sit down and say helps them out a lot.
Might kill the immersion a bit standing up and the old rudder might be a handful with a bit of foot dancing needed.
Awful sorry to hear about your troubles . Hopefully, in the near future, you get some relief .
As regards controls , I’m currently using a wireless XBox 360 controller . When using this , I can sit more upright and comfortable in my chair ( my arms are positioned down more towards my lap, elbows on chair arm rests ) .
I find with this position , I’m not in anyway " slouched " or leaning foward, therefore it doesn’t trigger the nerves in my lower back .
Only time I have to lean forward , is the odd occasion to press a button on the keyboard .
Thanks for the tip! Unfortunately it isn’t something that works for me.
Just a little side note…
This post was meant only to put a perspective on what matters in real life and not my personal difficulties.
So when you play MSFS and something goes wrong or buggy, Just remind yourself…
“Will this really make a difference in your life?”
