The SDK is basically worthless ... buggy, zero documentation, broken tools. When can we expect an update?

It is literally impossible to create a Bush Mission, for example. I want to create missions for people to fly, but I cannot. It is also full of annoying problems, such as not creating output folders on its own, or at least having no interface to do so so you have to alt tab and do it in a text editor. There is also no way to even fly custom missions if you manage to create one. There’s no way to start them.

when will this SDK be updated? Will it ever be updated?

Eventually, and yes.

The SDK is very much a work in progress, but it does make me wonder what in-house tools Asobo uses, as I’m sure it’s not this.

How those third party developers can make those nice airports with a worthless SDK?

I think those developers took the time to learn to use it, within its apparent limitations.

It can be done, you just need to put in a bit of effort.

Yep, you have to learn to use it. Is it worthless then?

Apparently not.

it’s easy to make airports. But it’s impossible to make missions because there is no documentation. The documentation for missions is literally just “TODO” and its been that way since the game came out. It’s impossible to learn a tool like this with no documentation, unless you want me to magically brute force guess triggers and whatnot. It also appears there is a missing mission editor, due to how they use FLT files.

you people obviously never opened the tool, saying “you just have to learn it”. There is a reason that there is ZERO community content besides airports, scenery and texture swaps.

So what SDK are Asobo using to develop the sim ??
Something “in House” ?

In a Professional/Commercial development environment, if documentation lags to far behind, it is a true red flag .

Nobody likes doing documentation, (especially programmers / designers), but unless you have a clear goal to what you are designing for, the whole design process become a total Free-For-All.

A test strategy is an outline that describes the testing approach of the software development cycle. The purpose of a test strategy is to provide a rational deduction from organizational, high-level objectives to actual test activities to meet those objectives from a quality assurance perspective. I’m guessing they have real tools in house and we’re left with this buggy thing that crashes quite often. Like I said there appears to be a missing mission editor so they have tools we don’t have access too. I really hope they aren’t withholding them for people/companies who will charge money for addons because I like to develop things for free.

I hope not as well. I suspect, like many Medium size software development projects, documention takes a back seat to an early release date, and the start of some sales cash inflow.

One BIG advantage of working on Military Governments Contracts – :moneybag: :moneybag: :moneybag:

Wait how do we get access to the SDK?

Dev mod > help > downloads > SDK installer

where is dev mod?

general > developers > developer mode > on

Thank you very much

The first thing I (and probably LOTS) of other people) wanted to do was to fix my home airport, which is small, but has lots of issues.

It appears we can’t do that yet, though it seems like perhaps the most fundamental activity that would take place with airports, especially considering the state of incorrectly placed taxi lights and beacons.

Also, there should be documentation. “Not having time” to write documentation isn’t valid- it takes far less time than coding.

I do believe that many of the main things in the sim need attention long before the SDK, but being able to fix existing airports by simply opening and editing them should be prioritized.
