The in game store is dead. The level of activity there and new stuff has dropped significantly.
To be honest, I wished it would have succeeded. It could have been a one stop shop and a central update place instead of following up on multiple vendors.
But it is not a good experience and I think that the more serious developers shun it.
The main reasons IMHO are that the time to deploy a fix or get a release in the store is long. We have seen with SU5 that products in the store get quick updates via the vendors’ own publishing channels and then only a week or two afterwards in the sim.
Despite the bureaucracy, MS/Asobo allow junk in the store. Be in the BREDDOK planes, or the Kitfox that was published early on and is broken with no cockpit screens since SU5, with no refunds from MS (which, you know, is rude. The developer has no level of support, but it is Asobo who broke their product).
Then there are the things that cannot be on the store - PMDG, FBW.
There are problems with updates - Aerosoft CRJ sometimes had issues unpacking during an update, I had to uninstall and reinstall to get it to work.
It’s a shame.
In the last DEV Q&A they indicating the next two uddates would be fixes only, no new content. I would imagine but am assuming, that the lack of new content is because they are working on the fixes for the next two releases.
That has nothing to do with this, though. They could still allow quicker updates in the marketplace (and increase quality control / improve refund policies) even if they themselves don’t work on new content. Which they are BTW (e.g. Reno Air Races, Top Gun Maverick).
Moved to #community:marketplace
The in game marketplace has been the single worst experience I’ve had with a video game lol I have money that they won’t refund me for planes that didn’t download after the transaction went though, and they won’t even give me the plane either. They’re as bad as it gets for me personally. They deserve to have the marketplace fail if they’ve been so abhorrent about fixing it so often.
There is new content. Just not in the marketplace, and when given the option, I’d buy it outside the marketplace.
Yeah the store missed it purpose completely.
As with many FS2020 issues its Asobos / Microsoft own fault.
Example … developers can fix bug and post an update in a couple of mins. The same thing on the store can take weeks.
Causing 3 issues
- people rather buy directly from the developer
- the developers will not use the store anymore
- if developers use the store and their own version …. Their own updates will be postponed untill the patch is finaly posted with Asobo. Meaning customers will fly weeks with known ( and fixed bugs ) for weeks extra ( aerosoft CRJ for example )
It realy is a shame … the initial thought was good ( easy to use store with all addons in one place )
But like many FS2020 stuff … it is self destructing on stupidity in the past year.
Take a look at how MS struggles to promote its browser, search engine, mapping…
or what they did with their mobile platform.
What you see with the FS2020 is just Microsoft doing what it does…
“There are problems with updates - Aerosoft CRJ sometimes had issues unpacking during an update, I had to uninstall and reinstall to get it to work.”
We would like to hear more about that, would you be so kind as to contact me on Mathijs.Kok@aerosoft.com?
This is by no means and absolutely not intened as a dig at the reputable devs that have been supplying our flight sim communities for years with very good products…
The whole marketplace is just one big obtrusive advert that I wish I could completely remove from the MSFS UI altogether. The only real questionable purpose it serves, supposedly, is for letting xbox users download addons.
Microsoft could have quite easily created a specific category, allocated or dedicated a small corner of the MS Store for flight sim addons. By doing that, all microsoft account holders would’ve been able access it, but more importantly, everyone would have been getting meaningful “proof of purchase” receipts by default.
Here in the UK, it is illegal to sell anything to anyone without providing them with a proof of purchase, which must include not only the date and time, but money spent and type of transaction, whether that be cash, cc etc.
lol… only a matter of time until a flight simming lawyer finds, that after spending money on a purchase, they have received no addon product nor have they been given any proof of purchase. poof, it’s gone.
No part of any terms, no matter how big you are as a company or how much clout you may have, can get you out of the hole you could find yourself in. Especially, when we’re potentially talking about +tens or even hundreds of thousand’s of customers.
I feel sorry for the folks that have no option but to use the marketplace.
However, I feel ms need to start giving out proper receipts for purchases made in the marketplace, instead of fobbing people off. That’s where most of the negativity is coming from and rightly so.
I am sending you an email.
