I never appreciated the feature until I used it but, for example, using the “Free Camera” option, I envisage being able to set a scene where, (as a virtual human), I stand atop Pilsdon Pen, (Dorset’s tallest ancient iron age hillfort), and I look South or point at, say, Abbotsbury ancient hillfort, (on the horizon approx 13 miles South) and … thanks to the wonder of the Free Camera option, record a “shot” of the camera gliding 13 miles across an ancient West Dorset landscape until the distinctive features and shape of Abbotsbury hill fort fills the screen. (and vice versa - by sharing a similar view from Abbotbury castle looking or travelling back the other way).
Such a video clip would be brilliant to add to my personal website discussing the topic of hill forts or Abbotsbury ‘castle’ itself. (It isn’t really a castle but is often referred to as such … although … Hang on, let me check)
Well. As a ‘fortified place’, maybe it is a castle after all … ![]()
I digress!
The point is; from any one ancient location in Dorset, I have the ability to ‘set the scene’ by taking my viewer or website visitor on an amazing visual journey where, perhaps from a central point just outside town, I would be able to create several ‘radiating’ visual video clips, (or journeys), that could deliver the viewer to several of the ancient sites that surround my home town.
And sure. I could cheat … by just gliding past the offending trees before creating such a scene … but it would be nice if I didn’t have to.
