So I’ve been doing a little experimenting on troubles with mouse and keyboards on Xbox. I have a Logi K270 Keyboard mouse combo which works extremely well and gives me no issues. However, It’s only a 3-button mouse and I want to use a 5-button mouse. So I bought a Tecknets mouse on Amazon. I was having trouble getting the mouse and keyboard to work nicely with each other. It seemed only one or the other would work depending on the order I plugged them in.
So what I did was unplug everything. Restart the console, start the sim up and go to controller options. Keep that page open. I noticed when I plugged in the Tecknets mouse, FS recognized it as a mouse and a keyboard. Then if I plugged in the Logi dongle (with Logi mouse batteries out) the keyboard wouldn’t work. So I tried it the other way, restart the sim and this time plugged in the Logi dongle first, then the Tecknets dongle. Then the mouse wouldn’t work. Sometimes the arrow would move but was unable to click anything.
My only conclusion is if you want to use a different mouse with your current Key mouse combo, you need to make sure the new mouse isn’t part of a keyboard mouse combo. And then make sure you take the batteries out of your current mouse. I have another Onn mouse that FS seems to see as just a mouse. In order to make this mouse play nice with my Logi keyboard I have to make sure my batteries are out of the Logi mouse, then unplug everything, go to the controller options page, plug in the Onn mouse first, then plug in the Logi dongle and then it all works together.
A bit of a pain I must say and Xbox could implement this better, but here we are. So just make sure the keyboards and mouse you buy show up as only as a mouse and keyboard separately and if using a different mouse with a keyboard from a combo, take the batteries out of the mouse.
Maybe someone else has already figured this out but I didn’t find it. Gonna have to ship my Tecknets back. If anyone can reccomend a decent 5-button mouse that shows up only as a mouse and can do both bluetooth and 2.4, let me know. Onn has one but it’s not comfortable and too bulky.
I found similar issues in regards to the Xbox Elite Series II controller. MSFS recognizes it as a controller and a keyboard on Xbox.
Interestingly, on PC, Windows recognizes my multi-button Razer mice as mouse and keyboard.
Since both the Xbox OS and Windows are Microsoft creations, this doesn’t surprise me.
I did find on Xbox, that depending on the order of how I connected “keyboard” peripherals I could get into a situation where one peripheral wouldn’t be recognized by the Xbox/MSFS.
I don’t really have any brilliance to offer, but other than to recognize what you’re finding as something that I found to be the case, too.
My fear for the Xbox userbase, is the peripheral issues might require an Xbox OS-level fix rather than an MSFS-level fix and getting that kind of fix put on Xbox Labs job stack is an added complexity.
I agree with you. I would stick with my 3 button mouse if I could find a way to push and pull on the managed and selected knobs on the A320. . They took away the legacy mode which has made things more difficult.
I need to be able to do these things on a 3 button mouse:
1: Push and pull on the managed and selected knobs
2: toggle between cockpit and external cameras (tried it on middle mouse click but it doesn’t feel right, prefer a button)
3: Reset the cockpit view (this I managed to do with holding down both left and right click butttons.
Otherwise I need a 5 button mouse.
Btw why are there two rows in the Mouse options page? Don’t quite understand that. Does one row take priority?
My guess is that they just have the same interface they use for all peripherals, so you just have a second column for an alternate control binding, which on a mouse with so few buttons/options it doesn’t make a ton of sense.
For a keyboard, though, it is helpful. The left and right shift keys are treated as separate keys, so if you want to use the right one to do the same as the left you need to set a control binding in both columns.
I have two separate dongles and both my mouse and keyboard are Kmart brand Anko rechargeable. I ALWAYS have to unplug my keyboard after the “Press Any Button to Continue” Screen to get it to work, which to me is a small price to pay. I have had problems getting them both to work after Xbox updates, swapping dongles to different ports etc, but I always end up sorting it out. I don’t use the keyboard a great deal, but not having a mouse is a deal breaker as I find the controller to be too cumbersome.
That’s funny. They used to be big here in the states in the '70s and '80s until Walmart pretty much ran them out of business. There might be a handful of stores left in the states. I’ve been to Australia four times and never once saw a Kmart. But then again I wasn’t looking haha Enjoyed my time there. Beautiful country. New Zealand is awesome too. One of my favorite places to fly in the sim. Okay this went a little off topic.
