There’s a SALE on, but I’m on holiday

There is currently a sale on in the marketplace, but I’m on holiday so can’t take advantage. It’s annoying I can’t buy remotely as you can with steam, and then install when I get home from holiday (after the sale ends). Currently you have to have the game installed to buy stuff which I can’t do as I obviously don’t have my PC on me.

It’s on until the 15th April. No good I guess if you aren’t back by then. They were talking at some stage of being able to buy stuff via the webite, but that hasn’t come to fruition yet I don’t think. There’s a lot on sale, but quite a few things that were on sale already are included there. Just picked up the JF turbo piper arrow. The sticker says 33% off but that is in game marketplace price. It’s really just 25% off of JF website price. Still a good buy though. They really need to assess whether the timing of having a sale while everyone is away on holiday is a good strategy though.

Cloud gaming would let you buy from your phone, but you do need either an xbox or PlayStation controller paired before it will let you start the game so that’s probably not an option on holiday.

Even then it would be an overly convoluted way to give Microsoft money…

It’s kind of weird when you consider that it would be relatively easy to build a web interface that would allow you to browse products, add items to your wishlist and make purchases. Then all they need to do is update the same database table(s) which they update when you purchase items in-game.

I’m surprised this still isn’t a feature because it would make it easier for people to give Microsoft money, but well, then, they’ve constantly underinvested in the marketplace from the get go.

Contact Microsoft Support

“Need assistance with your Microsoft product?
We’ll get you the help you need…”

Unless things have changed dramatically while I’ve been gone, they won’t be able to do anything to help the user. Plus they don’t directly handle support for MSFS.

Why don´t you have at least notebook or a laptop with you during the holiday?
What are you doing during your holiday without having a computer with you?

Maybe there are some good and cheap notebook rentals available in your current location that might solve your problem.

It would still need to download and install the full game before a purchase is possible.

The only semi-practical solution would be for someone to login to his PC and either make the purchase in game on his behalf, or enable RDP so the OP could remote login and do the purchasing themselves.

Or he could create an XBOX Gamertag and someone could log in to his profile on their XBOX, boot the game up and make the purchases.

They carry over cross platform.

It’s a holiday… why would he bring a laptop.

It’s interesting that I find myself in the exact same situation.
I was not aware that there would be a sale going on at this time and therefore did not think of downloading the entire simulator onto a laptop and carry that thing along for the holidays only to be able to access the marketplace.

There have been several occasions where I’d very much like to be able to access the marketplace without having to boot the simulator, even when I am at home.
I consider it a failure on their part for not making it more convenient to access and use the marketplace as I am sure the positives far outweigh the possible negatives.

I was thinking the very same thing.

It comes down to a simple business decision. It would need a team to develop and then maintain an online storefront for marketplace. So would the increased sales they might get pay sufficiently for this, and given a likely finite staff resource is this the most useful thing they could be working on?

Given that you need to be able to run the game to use the content I can well imagine the increased sales from an online storefront would not be sufficient to make it worthwhile, only MS/Asobo can really decide that though.

If they want to maximize the use of their own marketplace it would have been an obvious step to take.
If on the other hand, they are satisfied with people ordering addons from other sources because of these restrictions, that’s their choice.

It’s fairly obvious that having the marketplace have been an advantage for both developers and consumers because of its convenience and availability. A convenience and availability that would only be improved by an outside marketplace.
