Have you noticed how many things are exactly the opposite of what you would expect them to be in 2024?
Many flight controls (elevator, throttle, mixture) were mapped backwards by default
Cockpit and exterior lighting appears dimmed in the daytime and overly bright at night
Landing/taxi lights pointed straight down instead of forward
ATC regional voice option changes your pilot’s accent instead of ATC’s
Commands labeled “toggle” only open while commands labeled “open” toggle instead (comms panel)
It’s almost too much to simply be coincidence. I wonder if Asobo has a mole within the organization deliberately sabotaging things. Hey guys, did you hire anyone from Laminar Research in the past year or two? (Hint - it’s probably the guy that designed the controller UI)
Entirely legit speculation under the circumstances - however unlikely.
It’s the equivalent to saying, there’s no way things could be this backwards unless it was intentional, and since this is business, it would only make sense if it was a joke, and they will eventually say “gotcha” with a surprise new version that works… This is a much more “comfortable” conclusion than other possibilities, such as, nobody is in charge of QA and we’ve been professionally duped.
I can tell you just from flipping through the control bindings list, there are MANY, MANY duplicates and errors just in the list of bindings (where 1 of the duplicates is obviously intended to be something else). EG “Increase XXX” twice, and one of them is supposed to be “DECREASE” but which one?
Another alternative to a human intentionally punking, is that they tried to get AI to do the code…
not bad at all, it didn’t occur to me, but i can see that it really fits the scenario
with so many things that make zero sense, or faults that anyone would’ve catched by just using the software ONCE…
yeah, could be… who knows…
Alternatively, in the range of speculating about possible scenarios that got us this very poor version - from optimistic to cynical - another possiblity is that Microsoft squeezed Asobo after the contract was signed, and that we are caught in the middle of a budget negotiation face-off.
As I’ve been saying - if everyone’s incentives were lined up to give quality the priority, the software would be much better, and sales would be MUCH higher, even if it toook longer.
Me too - I think the one thing that was clearly intentional was to maximize profit. For the most part, everyone wanted MS/Asobo to be wildly successful with 2024 but unfortunately, a face plant is what resulted .
im also not into conspiracy theories but i can see the scenario of someone that’s in over their head in something, an approaching deadline… so… Ai please get me out of this mess… it fits that’s all im saying
i mean… the reversed dimming of the gps screens? seriously? how did that happen
One of the reasons that could have occurred is that they use the text layer (temporarily) to make sure they didn’t mount the textures mirrored. Obviously, you remove them after. I checked with some 3D Art Folks who work on sim projects and that’s a strong possibility.
Absent finding out from the actual Dev Partner (or core sim team) who built it - it’s all guesswork. What I have learned over the years from good bosses though is “assume positive intent.”
I characterize it like this: it would be nice if it at least felt like the devs cared about the quality as much as the users. I am sure they do, but it doesn’t FEEL that way when using it in its current state.
They got pushed to a deadline and now they have to try to clean it up. That process always takes twice as long and costs twice as much as doing it right (better) the first time, in my opinion.
I’m surprised that noone brought up the inappropriate message inside the medevac caravan (iirc) that could be interpreted as a bit of mean to the player base, and was relatively quickly fixed. I think it was talking about the dunning kruger effect and that there is real life and not just gaming. This might have been an employee in a bad mood, and I think many thought it could have been just AI generated trash. I don’t know which happened, could be either or something entirely different, but it was also clearly not something that should have made it in the game.
