Hi guys, I am thinking of giving msfs2020 a chance but my question is… I don’t want to buy the premium deluxe version but I do want the Boeing that comes with it. Is there a way to get/purchase the offical boeing separately if I get the standard edition?
The Boeings look lovely but if you’re into realism they’ll enrage you. I’m a total philistine and even I can tell they’re not great for that, especially the 787.
Being honest, if you’re thinking of giving MSFS a go, I’d recommend the Xbox PC Game Pass subscription if it’s available in your region. You can sign up for a cheap trial period and, although you’re limited to the standard edition, it’ll at least give you a good idea as to whether or not it suits your needs and you can always pay for a full edition later if you want. Plenty of other awesome airliners to fly
… And if you’re going to buy it - my honest opinion - get the standard edition. Now, I bought the Premium Deluxe on launch as a matter of principle, but really haven’t got much from the extra content. We’re starting to see some great add-ons coming out now … no really good big Boeings yet (but beware, there are some pretty bad ones) … but there are rumors and they will for sure arrive in time.
The question has been asked a couple of times before. If you want a whole boatload of opinions, you can read them at the thread linked below. Some may be a bit out of date now as we’ve had a couple of updates since the thread was started - but in the great scheme of things, I don’t think the stock 787 has changed very much.
Its difficult, the Boeing isn’t great from what I’ve been reading (I don’t own the Boeing 787) on the other end there is quite a lot of extra content (airports and other planes) for not that much extra. The quality isn’t at the same level as buying a handcrafted airport from Orbx or similar but still good enough. If you would need to buy those separately it would cost a whole lot more…
I took the Premium version as I’m not interested in the Boeing 787 or the boatload of extra GA planes. Heathrow and Frankfurt would have been nice to have but for me it didn’t justify paying for the Premium Deluxe version. Its a personal decision, look at how much of the extra content you are actually gonna use. The Boeing 787 has the major drawback being a premium deluxe plane, that is being encrypted and therefore you won’t find a community mod like for the A320nx to bring it to a acceptable level. Its up to Asobo and so far (from what I’ve read) its not in a good shape.
Another question (asking for a friend) is it even possible to upgrade from standard or premium to premium deluxe? Or do you have to buy the whole thing again?
Iam flying MSFS from the beginning. I bought premium deluxe, mainly because of Schiphol airport and the extra planes.
1 year later i can tell, i mainly flew the FBW A320, the H135 helicopter (from flightsim.to) and 3 GA a couple of times for some VFR sightseeing and lately the DC6. I bought in the marketplace the Spitfire and the Aermacchi MB 339.
So from the default actually nothing.
I bought some extra airport addons as well and 2 scenery packages which i kind of regret since the worldupdates are more than enough for me.
So if I would do it all over again I would go for the base package and get the rest from flightsim.to, developers themself and the marketplace.
I went the expensive way and upgraded from standard to premium deluxe after I was sure that I would keep it, because I wanted the 787 and the Longitude.
These two, plus the TBM are the aircraft I’m flying almost exclusively.
The DC6 looks nice, however, I really do not think an addon aircraft should cost $55.00.
At $55.00 that is HALF the price of the premium edition of MSFS…
In my opinion, $20-$25 would be more reasonable. I know, the developers spent a lot of time and $$ to develop the aircraft. Did they “really” spend a LOT OF TIME and $$…
..
It is somewhat like the “tomato” shortage several years ago. I love tomatoes, however, I am not willing to spend $5.00 for a single tomato. Guess what happened, we all quit buying the $5.00 tomatoes.
Suddenly there was an abundance of quality tomatoes to be had at a very reasonable price.
…
Expensive way of doing it but in Microsoft store you can certainly upgrade from their standard version, I’m not sure about Steam or Xbox but definitely not Gamepass.
If stock aircraft were up to par with some of the third-party aircraft out there you would be looking at MSFS being much, much more expensive. $20-$25 for the DC-6 or really any aircraft from a top-shelf developer is low-balling it if you ask me.
Up till now developers of premium quality aircraft and scenery have been catering for a pretty exclusive and relatively small customer base with relatively meagre pickings but that has obviously changed. Of course it’s a free world and they can charge what they want but in their shoes I would be studying this new market with a completely open mind. Charge more sell less or charge less sell more, both have their merits.
The “marketplace” ecosystems of MSFS, P3D, and X-Plane aircraft are littered with $20-25 add-on aircraft. A few are great, some are good, but many are low-fidelity renditions of their real-world counterparts that, at best, look good on the ramp but only fly well for basic chair flying.
Aircraft designers who dedicate the time and effort to realistically simulate features of their chosen aircraft models with high-fidelity, with the ability to fly “by the numbers”, and that continue to improve and introduce new features over time deserve that $55.00+ price barrier you’ve mentioned.
It’s not just the initial purchase price for the completed product to consider. It’s the support, the updates and enhanced features that often get added at no additional cost that you are paying for.
I’ve been there - Purchased many add-ons in the $20-25 price range on these platforms only to be disappointed as the title provides little added long-term value beyond the initial purchase price.
