Hi, I currently have a 1080ti which is still decently doing its job in pancake view, not so much in VR though. I’m on the fence about ordering a new 30xx series. Which one between the 3070/3070ti and 3080 in your opinion? I’ve only a 1080p monitor but my main concern is VR.
Other specs. i710700 32GB @3200
Thanks.
Depends on your budget, really. I would go for as high up in the series as you can afford.
I have a RTX3070 and it performs fine (30-40FPS) with settings Medium/High @ 1440p. I don’t have any VR experience but just from reading these forums as @Neo4316 said above, go for the highest you can afford
I have an NVIDIA 2060 Super 8GB and it does decent. Wish I could have gotten something better. But GPUs are almost impossible to get. people that do get some are selling them at double he price.
When they become available, I want the NVIDIA 3080Ti.
Yeah I could have actually afforded an RTX 3080 but they were just not available
It depends on which VR headset you are running and at what resultant in-game resolution you have set. If you have a Reverb G2, it will gobble up any GPU power you throw at it and the better GPU you have, the better your visuals. Even a 3090 can be brought to its knees!
As SU5 is coming out in the next few days, and it is expected to give a major performance boost for at least CPU and memory bound areas of the game, it will be best to re-evaluate after it has been released.
Yes, wait untill SU5 comes out. I think that is supposed to help on VRAM so it will be interesting to see if the VRAM requirements for GPUs on FS2020 drops a bit from what it is now.
Having said that, if you are interested in VR I wonder if the 3070 would be a wise decision especially if you want to keep the GPU for a few years.
I personally would wait a bit until prices come back down to a sensible level and then make a choice between maybe the 3080 or the 3080 Ti.
I upgraded from a 2660 Super to a 3070 in autumn. And I’m quite happy with the performance. Depending on aircraft and scenery I always get mid 30s to low 60s at 2560x1080 with a mix of HIGH and ULTRA settings.
Although I also have a Ryzen 5950X I’m more often limited by CPU than GPU, so I see no need for a GPU upgrade. Have no experience with VR though.
